My mother just brought cat #2 (Smokey) into her home. The two cats are brothers, but she brought Shiloh home earlier this spring, and just got Smokey this past week. Even though they are brothers, when she took Smokey to the vet, she brought the carrier home with the towel still in it, and left it open on the living room floor for Shiloh to go sniff around at. Then, when she went to get Smokey, the towel now had Shiloh's scent on it, for Smokey to figure out! She took Smokey to a spare room upstairs to let him loose, and that is the same room Shiloh had recuperated in, and still likes to go lay around in...so again, SMokey had Shiloh's scent around him...
For two days, Mom kept the door shut between them, then we (Mom, hubby and me, in case a fight broke out!) let Smokey out...Shiloh went and sniffed, tail puffed out, but never any growling or hissing, Smokey was too busy sniffing the food dish to bother with Shiloh...Most of the rest of the day went fine, Mom had to use a water bottle a couple of times as Shiloh was going a bit overboard in stating his dominance in the household and when Mom wen to bed, she did shut Smokey back into the room alone to give them both a break as they were getting on each others nerves!! She is gradually let Smokey out for longer periods as they get more used to each other...
I need to take the digital camera up and get some pics of these two...it is amazing how one cat can give off so many different coloured kittens in the same litter However, the mom of these two is pretty consistent in colours being shades of black white and grey! I guess she chooses her "mates" according to their colouring...who knows!!
