Buffy went in for a dental

Post by Marty »

and ended up having a lump removed as well. I have been through this before, but doc was rather insistent about sending it to pathology, which I would have done anyways..not having a good feeling about this...

Where was the lump located? As you know, even some benign or fatty tumors cannot easily be distinguished from others, that's why it's always a good idea for biopsy whenever possible.

It was on her back. Yeah, I wouldn't want to be left in the dark and worrying about what it was.

Hopefully nothing serious! When do you expect the results back?

Hang in there Marty, I know it's hard not to worry.

Good news...it was a benign cyst. It had some unusual characteristics which had the Vet concerned. But he got all of it out, according to the pathologist.

I just need to watch to watch for this happening again...

Good news! Glad it wasn't anything serious and hopefully will stay that way. Big hugs to Buffy!

I'm so glad to hear this was benign. It is not uncommon for older dogs to develop "lumps and bumps" (and weird warts too) as they near senior years, and a good percentage of them are benign or simple fatty sebaceous cysts (sometimes though, if they are bothersome to the dog and the dog scratches for instance, they can induce infection which you'd want to get checked by the vet). Likewise, in dogs and cats of ANY age, it's always prudent to get any lump or bump checked immediately. You've always been very observant with your pets, so that's a good thing.

I don't recall Buffy being a senior yet, though, how old is she exactly?

I know it doesn't seem so, but she will be 10 next May. It took me by surprise when he wanted to do a Senior blood panel before surgery...

Gosh, how time flies, for some reason I was thinking she was only around 7, but she's healthy, that's all that matters!
