Sabrina lost her purr?
Sabrina lost her purr?
My cat, Sabrina, has stopped purring! She recently had a doctor appointment with bloodwork (about a month ago), and everything was normal. She is eating, drinking, using the letterbox and walking and sleeping like normal. But her personality is a lot more serious, she's become a bit antisocial (not too extreme) and she hasn't purred in about a month. Any thoughts?
Re: Sabrina lost her purr?
That would be litter box, not letterbox! Sabrina is awesome, but she can't write letters yet.
Re: Sabrina lost her purr?
How old is she?
Any changes in the home recently that could be stressing her?
In some cats, it is common for them not to purr as often as they normally would. However, if you feel she is "off" and not herself, or has any changes in her normal behavior call your vet and ask if more testing should be done. What bloodwork exactly was done? Was a urinalysis done? If she is older than 7, has her thyroid function been tested? Did the vet listen carefully to her heart and lungs?

Re: Sabrina lost her purr?
I took her back to the vet, and they gave her prednizone, (that's spelled wrong), and that seems to have her all back to normal! I think it was a combination of allergies and respiratory issues that were making her cranky, but she hasn't coughed or sneezed, and she is purring again! Thank you, Traci!
Re: Sabrina lost her purr?
What tests exactly were done to justify the use of prednisone?
Were xrays done? What allergies exactly does the vet think Sabrina has?
It's not exactly good practice to just prescribe prednisone without a full health workup or testing for specific problems, so how did your vet justify the use of prednisone? Did he prescribe it in a very low dose and tell you it MUST be tapered to the lowest dose possible, and tapered off rather than abruptly ceasing it?
