consulting with 3 vets
Re: consulting with 3 vets
Please keep your posts in the original thread.
I posted the general diagnostics in my first post to you. The problem is, IF it was originally pancreatitis, it SHOULD have been resolved within a week or two with appropriate treatment.
Since problems persist past 2 months, then something else is going on and the vets need to determine WHAT, with specific testing.
If all 3 vets are in the same clinic, you're not really getting a second opinion since there is potential for bias. A new, more experienced, feline-only vet is in your kitty's best interests. Get all of kitty's health records faxed to a new vet for review. Since the new vet will then have all the records, additional diagnostics might be minimal since they will have prior tests already done and in front of them for review.
Lastly, a new, more experienced vet will most likely be able to pick up things the current vets have missed, or that, the current vets aren't doing enough toward ruling out other things and diagnostics. Why settle for a less experienced vet when other more experienced vets are available?
Remember, we're talking about a barely year-old kitty, who SHOULD be in excellent health, not sick for over two months. This is not normal! Whenever a vet can't get to the underlying cause, it is time to see a new one!
Get a full blood profile done, CBC, possibly xrays, possibly immunological profile done. Has your kitty ever been tested for FELV/FIV? Heartworm? Tick or parasitic blood-borne disease? These are only a handful of tests that can be considered. A new, more experienced feline-only vet can most likely pick up on what your current vets have missed.
Your posts are too vague for further comments, you said kitty had pancreatitis, then only said he was on cipro. This isn't enough to wage even a guess, but the important thing is, your kitty is still sick and your current vets clearly aren't committted to your kitty. Get to a feline-only vet who IS. The longer this goes unaddressed, the longer kitty will be sick and that isn't fair to him or you.
