Hi,
Traci, this is Peg. Shannon's doing fine but I have a question. I bought an artificial christmas tree and it has glitter on it. Will the glitter hurt Shannon in any way? I'll take the tree down if necessary. Thanks.
Shannon,
Is she bothering the tree?
What I'd be concerned about is ingestion of large amounts, since it doesn't dissolve (I'd assume a couple specs of glitter are harmless, they'd pass through). And glue, if glue was used to attach the glitter, most glues are toxic. Also, I assume artificial trees with glitter have been sprayed with glitter, which would be an aerosol, so if the tree came in packaging, like a box, look on the label for warnings about the aerosol type used, cautions, etc. Artificial trees also might contain other sprays and substances you're not likely to ever know what they are. I think most would be fairly safe, but you just have to be careful with anything colored, sprayed on, or if it smells weird, you know it's been through some sort of application. Bottom line, you don't want any pet ingesting any part of the tree, any particles, branches, fake needles that could cause internal damage.
The same applies to snow-flocked trees, for anyone reading, these should be avoided around pets!

Re: Shannon,
She has been under the tree but I am too worried. The tree is beautiful but I have taken it down and vacuumed all the glitter we could get up. It's not worth the risk to Shannon. I will buy a real tree later. This one goes back to the store. Thanks for your reply. I just couldn't chance it.
