Hubby is taking Squirt to the vet this morning....lastnight when we went out to feed and water, Squirt has a good size wound on his side...maybe half dollar size or so...not deep or in need of immediate attention, but needs care nonetheless....
Hubby went out with the flashlight and scoured the yard, which is 20x60 for anything that he could have got caught or scraped on, but after looking closer, at how the skin was sort of curled down, for lack of better description, we think that the dogs got into a tussle and he got bitten a bit too hard, like maybe teeth got caught and scraped down the side....
Regardless, he has an appointment at 10:00 to get it looked at , cleaned up and antibiotics as I would rather get him on them to ward off any infections, since he is outside all the time and there is NO WAY we can bandage that....do they make a spray on "skin"?

Re: Squirt Got an Owie :(
Sorry to hear. Yes, there is spray on - forget what it is called. Winnie's vet in NOLA had me get it for an owie she had one time. I got it at Walgreen's/// Maybe "Nu Skin" or something like that?
Well, Squirt went and got cleaned up, as well as his booster shots, as he was due for those this month anyways...
I will check to see if NuSkin is available when I go shopping this afternoon...and ask the vet if he thinks that will help to keep it clean...they lay in straw bedding and with snow melting, it is pretty muddy out in their yard right now!!
the vet said he would rather leave it open, but IF it were warmer and fly season, he WOULD have sewn him up, just to keep flies from infesting the site...it looks better now that it is cleaned up, and Squirt did VERY well at standing there to let him do it
he gave us a spray on antibiotic, Gentavid (sp) to apply...and we will just keep an eye on it...he said he will have a scar of course, but he should heal fine and the hair should grow back...
That was another concern of mine, that he would have a bald spot to burn in summer!

Re: Squirt Got an Owie :(
If you've ever used Nu-skin, you know it HURTS when applied to an open wound. It's only intended to be used for minor cuts and scrapes (in humans), NOT large open wounds.
Keep a close eye on it, Tambrey, make sure it is cleaned at least once or twice a day to keep debris out of it.

Thanks...no, I have never used it...thanks for that warning!! I guess we will just keep it clean ourselves and not bother spraying such a large area with it....
