Safe journey, Bear.

Posted with permission, my friend Tony's pup, Bear. He stopped eating two days ago, and when Tony took him into the vet, they discovered that cancer had completely overtaken his spleen and had spread to most of his other organs, and he was also bleeding internally. There was nothing they could do, so they put him down while Tony gave his pup one last Bear hug. Tony and Bear had only been together a few months, since Tony rescued Bear from a shelter with a very high kill rate. They only had a little time together, but Bear was very loved.

I'm so sorry, slvrwhispr, what a beautiful, magnificent boy Bear was. It's easy to see how Tony loved him so much.

Please pass on our thoughts to Tony, and tell him how grateful we are that he gave Bear so much love and comittment, even if only for a short time...that time must have been incredibly special for both of them.

(((HUGS))).....safe and gentle journey, sweet Bear...

So sorry to hear this! How old was beautiful Bear? I can certainly sympathize - the diagnosis is the same as the one we received for my German shepherd Winnie, who was 9 years and 8 months of age (I made an error in the earlier post: `Eowyn was born in May 1996, not '97) when she died suddenly, with no apparent previous symtoms whatsoever, not even loss of appetite... I came online today to post this information on Canine Health... Again, my deep sympathy to all concerned for the loss of Bear.

Bear was just a little younger than Winnie, about 7 or 8. He was a stray, so it's just a vet's guess as to his age.

You know, the thing that I love about this forum is the amount of love everybody has for animals they've never even met before. That kind of compassion is rare, and I appreciate it more than I can tell you.
