Ferals with Worms ...ICK!

Post by Tambrey »

Is there anything I can mix in with the food I set out for the feral cats? I am sure they have had worms all along, because they just usually do...but someone has them bad enough that they ate some grass, then proceeded to toss the grass and a bunch of worms onto my front steps this morning!!

I know I could never catch them to get medicine into their mouths...but if there is something I can mix into the food, that would be great!

Thanks...

Unfortunately, nothing is going to be as effective as the dewormers you get from your vet. Even if you had them, they would need to be prescribed by weight, and you cannot just crush them into the food and hope for results (one or more of the cats could get an excessive dose or none at all)

Traci...that is what I was afraid of ..... I guess the next best thing I can do is try to catch each one and take it in...I know they need to be treated somehow...they cannot continue to carry worms as I know the worms will eventually get the better of them...

Tambrey,

My first experience with worms was when I took in my first semi-feral a year ago. He vomited under my bed (of course during the night, it's always during the night). When I went to clean up the pile, well, it moved. Needless to say, I grabbed the Lysol (which I don't usually have because I use natural cleaners), sprayed the entire bottle on the pile, then cleaned up. Simon was dewormed the next morning and seemed to feel a lot better.

I still smile when I think about the story.

Lisa.

I remember when we got our Blackfoot many years ago, he did the same thing...LOL...he lost it right on the living room carpet, so I went to get some paper towels, and by the time I got back, the pile had moved about 6 inches and was still working its way across the floor!!!...

I will have to figure out something for these ferals, though...the two females have been coming around long enough that I can pet them, so could probably get meds into them...however, the males and younger ones are still way too wild to even get near them...
I guess patience...
