Parker was diagnosed with an upper respitory infection on Friday and was started on his treatment of Clavamaxx(amoxicillin) with a shot at the vets on Friday. I give him his antibiotics twice a day.
He is still acting unlike himself. He wants to sleep all the time. He is eating and drinking okay. Im so worried about him.
Im wondering how long it will take him to feel better and if this is normal? Thank you!
Also, his left eye is dilated more than the other one. And the thin film that covers their eyes when they sleep still shows in the corner of his eye. Could this be because of his upper respitory infection?
Question about my kitty's health
Re: Question about my kitty's health
How old is your kitty, and was a fever ever present? Did your vet perform any actual diagnostics? (at least a CBC, etc)
Dilation of the pupils usually does not occur with a URI, I'd get your kitty back for a recheck immediately or for a second opinion, especially when lethargy is evident, and combined with a dilated pupil. Was your kitty ever tested for FELV/FIV?

Re: Question about my kitty's health
He did have a temp on Friday when I first took him to the vet. When I took him back on Saturday, he still had a fever, but it had gone down some. I am going to take him back tomorrow and have them retake it.
They did not do any blood work for him when I took him Friday. Is that something they should have done?
He is about 9 to 10 months old and when he first went to his foster meowmy's, he had a URI. But other than that he has been healthy.
Parker has been tested for FELV/FIV and was negative. Can it develop?

Re: Question about my kitty's health
In any kitty with a suddenly dilated pupil, my first questions are testing for FELV/FIV. But, there are various causes that can cause a dilation, such as hypertension, heart problem, and other causes). I would suggest asking your vet to further examine the eye and cornea for any signs of foreign embedded object, scratch on the cornea, etc. As for FELV/FIV testing , it depends on the age of your kitten at the first time of testing. I usually test my kittens first at age 10-12 weeks, and at least once more 12 weeks later to be more accurate.
Because a fever was present, the first thing *I* would have opted for would be at least a CBC and a snap FELV/FIV test. The CBC can tell your vet a great deal about infection, dehydration, white/red blood cell counts and immunological stress to some degree.
If you can take his temp at home at least twice today (once in evening), this might give you peace of mind about fever and/or response to antibiotics. If the temperature exceeds 103-104, I wouldn't wait, call your vet promptly.
URI's usually cause anorexia in young kittens because they are congested and cannot smell their food. Since you stated your kitten is eating and drinking fine, I would ask your vet to investigate alittle further (again, based on the fever, lethargy, dilated pupil)
