My cat won't eat
My cat won't eat
I have a cat that is 20 years old. He is an indoor/outdoor cat who as of this past fall would still hunt. This winter he is not eating; definitely won't eat solid cat food. I have tried all different cat foods. At first he would eat the pate's and now all he does is lick the juice off. Last night I offered him 4 different varieties and he just kept coming back begging for something to eat. He is still very content, loves to be held and purrs. I do notice he is more weak in his back legs and he is very thin (I wonder why??) He gives no indication of being in any pain. Is there any food that I might try or is this where I have to make the "hard" decision. Thanks for your help.

The appropriate thing to do is get him to your vet immediately for an exam and complete blood profile. Any kitty over the age of 7 should have this done on a yearly basis (or more frequent when health problems are obvious). Also include urinalysis and thyroid function tests.
Older kitties can fast succomb to renal, hepatic, heart disease if they are not diagnosed and treated effectively. Bloodwork is necessary to detect underlying or developing health conditions.
Anorexia, weight loss and weakness/lethargy are serious concerns. Don't wait another minute on this please, get your kitty to your vet ASAP. (btw, cats mask pain very well, don't assume you can determine if he is in pain or not)
From this point on, I strongly urge you to keep your kitty indoors only.
