Goodmorning,
For the past two days, I have not had heat in my home. I have called the Oil company and apparently they don't make people with animals priority. I called 4 times in the past two days telling them that no one had come out to re-fill my oil. Today I will be trying all day again. It's very cold inside my apartment, I have a small electric heater going in my bedroom where the kitties usually sleep with me. However, they play outside of my room. They have been sleeping, eating, drinking and playing normally...but often I have been checking their ears, paws, and tails and find that they are very cold. In this situation is there anything I should look for or worry about with their behavior? Will they cry if they are TOO cold? How do I know for sure that they are okay? I have been warming up their ears with my hands for the time being. Any advice for my babies is appreciated! God willing the oil with get here today...

Hi...well...I'd guess that if it isn't too cold for you and they seem to be playing and eating as normal then I wouldn't worry too much. Remember they do have a fur coat...and if they get cold they will usually seek out a warm spot to curl up in. I doubt they are going to freeze, especially if they have access to a warm room. Hope the oil gets there today though...for your sake!

Since you do have electricity, you can provide them with a heating pad or an electric blanket on your bed. (keep on low setting only).....one way of gauging how cold they may be is knowing how cold you are....if you're pretty cold, chances are, they are too. As long as you have at least one room heated, this should be sufficient for them.
I'm really surprised your gas company isn't doing better for you, call them back and get agressive with them, you're paying for a service, not to mention they are fully aware of the cold weather.

I don't have central heat and refuse to use space heaters while I'm not here to monitor them, but my guys are always fine. They're VERY resourceful at finding warm spots--the fridge, the TV, a sunbeam, or a big purry pile on the bed.

Thanks for all your quick replies! Being their Mommie I get worried often about them ...Always want whats best for them. As for me, When i'm at home all my extremities are freezing. But I can handle no heat, I just curl up in a blanket..it's my babies that are important to me. Most of the night I didn't sleep only because I would make sure my hands were covering thier little bodies...so my body heat would be on them. Well I'm at work my husband is with them at home today...He called and was "aggressive" with them. They are on their way out so it shouldn't be much longer! Funny how they jump for a man- But for future, I will take all this advice and make use of it. It's snowing here!
