Here's hoping we can get some advice.
We adopted a nice adult calico cat from a shelter about one month ago.
The cat uses the litter box fine for defecating, but she urinates all over. Usually she leaves wet spots in the dining room or living room.
Even when we had an additional litter box upstairs in the bathroom, this kitty would go in the dining room and make a wet spot.
This morning she urinated inside our grand piano. This was -- as you can imagine -- troubling to us.
We have had her examined by a veterinarian, and have obtained her required shots. From what the vet can see, she is a healthy cat. She is about 3 years old.
Is there any way to try to train this cat to urinate in the litter box?
We hate to take her back to the shelter. They WILL accept her back, but she was in this non-euthanizing shelter for 6 months. She was already adopted and returned once. Other than this problem, she is happy with us.
There are two other cats in the household. The other two cats use the litter boxes with no problem.
Possibly this is a training question. Advice desperately needed.

was the vet made aware of this urination problem? if so, what tests were conducted to rule out infections? this issue might have occured only after she entered your home (maybe stress related).Glyptodont wrote:We have had her examined by a veterinarian, and have obtained her required shots. i would strongly suggest another visit to the vet.

if you have 3 cats and 2 litter boxes (as I read the post) THAT could be part of the problem. Personally I'd add 2 more boxes and put them as close to the areas that she has peed inappropriately on.
But most importanly, have her more thoroughly tested at the vet. Something medical could have been missed.
