Bumb After Surgery?

Post by firewolf »

My sister's 7-month-old kitten was spayed about 13 days ago. She just got her stitches out today. She now has a bumb where the incision was that is about 3/4 the size of a ping-pong ball. I didn't see the bumb before today, but you have to hold Zoey, the kitten, almost completely upside-down to see the bumb.

The vet said that the bumb could be the following:
-due to too much activity during recovery
-an infection from stitches
-or a hernia (sp?)

I wasn't at the vet so I don't know exactly what was said. Zoey was playful during the 13 days with her stitches and e-colllar. She would play and leap high and chase after toys. So, I believe that that first possibility is the one that is most likely.

The vet also advised to apply heat to the area, which we have been doing with an organic heating pad.

Of course, since it hasn't even been a day since we were aware of this bumb, we cannot tell if it's increasing or decreasing. I will keep you all posted on the progress.

I was just wondering if any of you out there know anything more about what this could be or experienced something similar. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. You can also e-mail me at digiparadise2000@msn.com . Thanks!

didnt notice a color mentioned, pinkish would obviously mean a blood rush as in inflammation..chances are its the immune system influxing healing fluids and such to the once wide open area.

the bump could also be a reaction to the suture material used, perhaps the kittens skin is sensitive to it.

be sure to keep your vet in the loop of any changes, espcially in the event of odor, discharge or pain.

keep us updated.

if you only talked with the vet on the phone about this, you need to have the vet see the bump just in case its an obvious infection.

agree with Jason, but it never hurts to have these things looked at most are inoccuous and are due to a stitch, or where a Knot is place to a small local abcess//most of which go away but there is nothing like a close up look
