Have you ever seen a cat like this?

Post by Marisa »

My boyfriend and I went to the movies and found very hungry, very scrawny cat in the parking lot. We drove by her once, and when we got out of the movie she was still there. That was it. Even though I grew up on a farm and people used to simply dump boxloads of kittens(literally!) in our field and I don't really like cats based on that(wild kitty overload!), we took her home and fed her a little. We thought we'd take her to the pound in the morning(we've got an excellent one in our town). Well, she is a very sweet cat, knows how to use the makeshift litterbox we created, and I think we will keep her. She is declawed(?) but we won't assume she's also spayed. We are taking her to the vet on Monday(we checked the lost ads and also registered her at the pound as well).

At any rate, I've never seen a cat like her. She has short hair, green eyes and is chocolate brown. Beautiful. Does anyone have any idea what type of cat she might be?

From your description, I would guess a Havana Brown. They are kind of rare I think. Is it very dark brown? My second thought is a burmese. There are more of those, however, their eyes are usually yellow. Run google searches on those names and look at the photos of them.

How brown? A burnt toast brown?

Thanks so much, Jason and Linda, for responding so quickly!

I looked up both breeds on the website you provided, Jason. My boyfriend and my brother both thought she was a Burmese, and the color brown was listed in the Burmese description. But Coco is a real rich chocolate brown. In the dark when we first found her, we assumed at first that she was black, but she is like the color of a Hershey's bar, not the semi sweet kind, but the milk chocolate kind...I wonder if Burmese cats actually get that dark, or if she is in fact a Havana Brown...

...she's so sweet. I'm glad she found us!
