help! my new kitten is sick!
help! my new kitten is sick!
i just got a new kitten to wake my two boys up a little...but after 5 days she has a white discharge from her eyes, her nose is running a little bit, and she seems a bit colder than normal. i've been washing her face with a clean washcloth for the past two nights, and i really can't afford to take her to the vet immediately...comments, ideas, help please, i love my new kitten emma! thank you!!!
Re: help! my new kitten is sick!
i also wanted to mention that other than those two symptoms she is playing normally, eating fine, and has no problems with her stool, if that helps at all

Please do try to get her to the vet immediately. I know money is a concern; you can ask your vet about arranging a payment plan and you'll probably be able to work something out. Also, if she was adopted from a shelter, you may want to call them to ask if there are any infectious diseases going around that she might have been exposed to.
How old is she exactly? If she is very young, what seems like just a "cold" can be very debilitating, so please don't wait!
Good luck and let us know how it's going.

Re: help! my new kitten is sick!
emma actually came from an individuals home (but the lady worked for a shelter which was in the process of moving) and it says on my health record may 1st for her birth date yet the lady told me she was 11/12 weeks, so I'm not exactly sure I've only had her 5 days like I said. But I will be calling a vet tonight anyway, so thanks.

Upper respiratory infections in kittens can become quite serious if left untreated. Do NOT delay in getting her seen and treated, she can also transmit this to your other cats.
As Kate mentioned, it's important to find out (if adopted through a shelter) if infectious diseases were a problem in the shelter. You truly need to get your kitten seen and examined by your own vet anyway, tested for FELV/FIV, dewormed if your vet warrants and vaccinated accordingly. Don't wait on this please, you MUST make sure this is treated.
