what's up with this kitten
my cat hurt his leg and is limping on it. the vet said there is no immediate threat but did not take xrays. The thing is, he's acting really depressed. He won't talk or move, just lay there. Is there anything a vet can do? do they put a cast on a kittens leg?
Get your kitten to a NEW vet and demand that the leg is shaved to detect any bite wounds, insect bites, abcesses, etc. If that doesn't detect anything, then demand an x-ray. If the leg is swollen, feels warm to the touch and kitty is lethargic in any way, you need to get him to an ER vet immediately. We can't diagnose the problem, it could be an abcess, spiderbite, or fractured bone, don't wait to find out, your kitten is in obvious pain, so go now please.
..........Traci
probably distressed cause of the change in its mobility, the
cast is foreign to your kitten and it will take a while for what ever injury there be to heal..its not unusual to not take x-rays (often to save the owner money) because on small animals you can usually feel and type the fracture if there is one...even if there is a small fracture it would not rquire resetting ..a cast is your best and most common form of treatment, if for no other eason than to stop the kitten from using the legs and letting it rest...tincture of time will usually prevail be patient...
whoops, thought you said a cast was applied...sorry and
as traci said it could be a bite wound but i think you have time to find that out....
Re: what's up with this kitten
Although I agree with the first reply, if there is still nothing wrong with the cat, try to have it sit in your lap. Even if it isn't the best thing for the cat, if it still won't eat try to feed it it's favorite treat or something else it will eat eagerly from you. Then, try to put the cat down and coax it to walk. If it won't try in another couple of hours, or if you think it's in even worse pain, wait a day or so.
