Help! New kitten needs training - how?

Post by bambicat »

I need some advice on my new kitten. I am having two problems:

1) when I'm at the kitchen table, trying to eat, she crawls up my legs, and scratchs me to get me to play with her or hold her, which I can't do while I'm trying to eat! What should I do to train her?

2) she trys to jump onto the kitchen table, which is an "off-limits" area for her. How should I train her not to get up there?

Please help! Thank you.

First off she is a kitten and does not know better. Cats and kittens are smell driven and she is after your dinner. She goes up the quickest way she can which is up your leg. Before you sit down to eat, put her in a room by herself with a bowl of wet food, a few toys water and a litter box. Once you finish eating and have cleared the table, let her out and spend about 10 minutes in interactive play with her.

The quickest way to stop her from jumping on the table is to take some placemats and turn them over place them all around the edge of the table, when she jumps up, they will slip and she won't like that movement and will immediately get down. Cats do not like things that move.
