...to tempt a feral into a have-a-heart cage? My Molly's mama is feral and I suspect pregnant again. I have been trying to catch her for over a year now and she knows it. I did have her once in the cage but the last person that used it didn't secure it properly in the back and she flew out. I should have checked it over before setting it up.
Anyway, when I do set it up, MewMew circles it, sniffs, looks at me and walks away as if to say "I'd rather starve than have you capture me". I tried a trail of fishy cat food but it didn't do the trick. I was thinking regular tuna fish or sardines. Anything stinky to entice her. She has been eating allot and drinking her cat milk to the last drop. I was told that when she stops eating is when she's due to give birth. Not sure how true this is but I'm going to be very upset with myself if she disappears again for a few months with yet another litter. I also think her tail is injured because never once have I seen it turned upward, it's always down.
Any suggestions? Help please!
Thanks,
Cleo
Are sardines okay ...
Re: Are sardines okay ...
To tempt with only, yes, they're fine, but don't feed them long term.
She won't actually stop eating per se, but may decrease her appetite within 24 hours directly prior to birthing. If you can feed her kitten food, this would be ideal.
If the sardines won't work, try salmon (canned only please, don't want to trust deli meat or uncooked fish) or even cooked chicken.
