My cat used to sleep with me and come up on the furniture and seek attention or just camp on top of the sofa.
Now, after a flea infestation that I have addressed, she won't stay on the bed or walk on the carpets or come up on the furniture.
I'm looking for suggestions to help her overcome her fear of getting flea bite from those places so that she can sleep somewhere besides the bathroom sink or toilet lid at night or stay in that area when I'm at work.
She does go outside when I'm home and I have been spraying for fleas there but she doesn't seem to mind the dirt or concrete(she'll lie in the dirt).
Thanks in advance,
Bruce

How old is she, and what product have you been using to treat? Has she been evaluated by your vet? Have you also treated the indoor premises, and with what product?
Treating her, then letting her outdoors again is not the solution, as long as she's outdoors, even the best of products will not prevent fleas from infesting her again.

Thanks Traci. Well, I spray outside with diazonion(spell?) and have bug bombed inside with Raid foggers and put stuff on the carpet that is a powder you sprinkle on, broom around, and then vacuum a 1/2 hour later.
I -and I know the forum is against it- use a flea collar that hartz makes that supposedly kill fleas and eggs for 'up to 7 months' and have also -2 months after putting the collar on- used the zodiac 'spot on' treatment.
My cat -cinnamon- is just over two years old, spayed, female, all shots.
Haven't been to the vet -yet- because of financial conditions.
The house does seem better after the raid foggers this past weekend but it is her fear -meaning changed behavior- that is my main concern; she is a very affectionate kitty and always slept in my bedroom or on the bed(most of the time on the dresser until it was time to wake me up).
NOw, she stays in the bathroom or wants to be outside.
She does have a good appetite and coat(I brush and comb her daily, sometimes twice a day with the comb), defecates/urinates well and has lots of energy(but she is still at the upper end of the teenage years).

The diazinon is an organophosphate that is toxic to cats......the raid foggers carry residue, and the flea collar is too risky.
You and your kitty would fair so much better by spending a few extra bucks on Advantage or Frontline, a once-a-month treatment, safer and more effective than any flea collar. (thanks for taking notice of our warnings against Hartz products, some of their products are indeed toxic to cats, not to mention ineffective-- I would also caution strongly against the use of any Zodiac products)
I suspect with the combination of foggers, carpet powder, etc, your kitty is too apprehensive about the carpet and furniture, she probably can smell/sense the residue and is irritating her (could even be irritating her mucous membranes and other sensitive tissues/skin, etc)...hence the isolation in the bathroom, you probably didn't treat that room.
I'd definately get her checked by your vet, an exam won't be that costly, but any time sudden changes in behavior occur, it's best to play it safe with an exam. While there, talk to your vet about effective, safe flea control, as well as treating the premises safely.
