Why I love my vets-
Why I love my vets-
Took Honey in today for a lump (I thought it was a cyst)...vet said it is a cyst and leave it - she would not put her thru anything when it is harmless. I love that they have consistently been up-front like that and not just out to make $. This is a practice of several vets ( for davet- used to be 50/50 - men/women...now all lady vets- over about 10 yrs.) and I usually ask for my favorite. They are caring and have even adjusted the bill down once in a while. On the flip-side, I always take her in for her yearly exam (expensive), heartworm test and meds, plus other meds. I feel that they compensate for a good customer. But the main thing is that the care I get for Honey is top-notch and compassionate.
Re: Why I love my vets-
thats the way a multi practice shouold be (but not that many females), you should be allowed to see the vet you prefer, not shuffled in by number..that was one thing about my practice, you always saww the same vet, you saw the vet the answered the phone, the one that mopped or cleaned up the floor after a pet accident, and the one that used a coat hanger to open your car when you left the pet in and he hopped around and pushed all the lock buttons...etc etc...but you should be able to see your own persoan vet like you would want to see your own persoan MD
Re: Why I love my vets-
The only problem with that is the rotation.....that's why you can't always see your favorite vet.
Davet, I agree, it's better (or maybe easier to work with, ha) when there is both male and female vets in the same clinic, makes for an interesting and varying degree of opinions, knowledge, experience and of course, personalities.

Well, according to Amanda's Mom, and her 1.50 an hour (adjusted due to inflation), there's your answer, LOL.

In Davet's defence, $1.50 an hour was about twice minimum wage in the late fifties and early sixties. Not bad at all! ....
Re: Why I love my vets-
thanks JDF but one problem, she wasn't born till the late fifties or early 60s so that doesn't help my argument at all....

Re: Why I love my vets-
I started working around 1974, not sure what the child labor laws were. I made ~$1.10 / hour until my brother told me that minimum wage was $2.00. Out of guilt, davet bumped me up to $1.50.
Figure 1: The Value of the Minimum Wage since 1950 Year
1950 $0.75
1956 $1.00
1963 $1.25
1968 $1.60
1974 $2.00
1979 $2.90
1981 $3.35
1997 $5.15

Re: Why I love my vets-
Back to the point, I love my vet because she is female. It's a multi practice run by a husband and wife team. They have several female vets, the husband is the only male. Sounds like something davet would run. The husband and I seem to have a personality conflict. I think his examinations are too quick and he blows off my concerns. I was going to change vets because I didn't like him but then he hired a new vet and we get along great. Initially you couldn't ask for a specific vet but now they have changed that policy so I always ask for the same one. She knows me and always asks about all the animals when I come in. This is the third time Amanda has seen this vet. Usually I have to carry all 85 pounds of Amanda in the office. This time she walked in on her own and even excepted a treat. She has never accepted a treat from a vet in her life. I love my female vet.
