Hi all. I really need some help here. My daughter and I rescued two kittens from the local shelter and they have been a riot to have around. We named them Vinnie & Guido. Guido especially has alot of "character" and is a "Chatty Catty". Vinnie is sweet and loving. My sister brought home an abandoned female kitten 2 days ago and her prescence has triggered some bizarre behavior in Guido. While Vinnie and my two older cats are taking this new addition in stride, Guido has been very vocal about her prescence and down-right mean to me. The new kitten does not even need to be in the vicinity and Guido starts growling, hissing, and demonstrating angry behavior. Up until a few minutes ago he hasn't attempted to bite or scratch me when I pet him, but he did it. I put him in the crate for now. (The crate is large and safe and where I would keep the two babies at night to house-break them). I would leave him alone indefinitly until he accepts this new kitten's prescence, but I have another problem. Guido has a GI infection and I have to give him Flagyl 2x daily. Not an easy task to begin with and now with the way he is acting towards me, how am I going to medicate him without him becoming totally alienated from me. I would appreciate any suggestions.

I need some help with unusual behavior
Re: I need some help with unusual behavior
Boy, Guido is really mad at me for letting this other baby in the house. He is sitting next to me, but I am NOT allowed to touch him. I do have a hockey mask and body armor and I am mentally prepared for the task of giving him his pills. Pray for me.

sounds like a tough situation to me. my only suggestion now would be to make as many pleasant times with Guido as possible in hopes it eleviates some of his stress/torment.
he certainly has enough going on now to stress him out and/or make him feel unloved in some way (not that you do, just have to talk his language/get through to him at his level).
try to give him what he wants when you are able to do so. if he wants some isolation from the new kitten, perhaps allowing him to roam a larger area of the house for certain times of his waking day is something to experiement with. not to be done indefinitely, just temporary.
good luck.

Re: I need some help with unusual behavior
Hi...don't isolate Guido totally because he doesn't understand what is going on. I'm sure the stress of a new can and having an illness is enough to make him be grouchy. Keep him seperate from the new kitten until he feels better, then try to re-introduce him. Cats often get irritable when they are sick and it may not be just the new kitten that is upsetting him. Hang in there! Keep us posted on Guido's progress

Thanks all
Guido is just being grouchy for whatever reason. I'm not sure it's because he doesn't feel good - he's still playing with the other cats. I managed to give him his pill this AM without a lot of drama. Still not having a lot to do with me although I am now allowed to touch him. I am not keeping him isolated, only the one instance - a "time out". I just wondered why he is so angry with me. I hope it won't last.
