Guess what! Gina has another question... anybody surprised? .
I went to PetsMart lastnight to find an appropriate "lite" food for Oscar. I'm leaning toward Science Diet but am wondering... there is a feeding amount for "maintaining" and a feeding amount for "weight loss." Traci, this may be a question for my vet... but which should I try? Maybe start with maintain and see how his body responds?
I'll certainly be watching his weight level to ensure he's not losing too fast and will take him back in 3 months for a follow-up, sooner if I see a problem.
By the way, Oscar does have daily exercise and play time. All I have to do is head to the drawer where the furry mice are kept... and he's off and playing!
Gina, ayou talking about the feeding guide on the package? I was not aware the Science Diet Lite had two feeding guidelines as such. This diet is intended for maintaining current weight, not reducing it.
At 13 lbs, you could start him at 3/4 to 7/8 cup of dry....or if using canned, start with 1 5/8 cup (of a 5.5 oz can). But, I prefer you run this by your vet first, ok?
Gina, can you exercise him a bit more? I know even my laziest cat adores those feather toys, and it's a sure way to get him off his butt and moving around.
