My cat moved her kittens
My cat moved her kittens
My cat moved her kittens they are 8 days old. Is that normal for her to move them She had them behind the bed now they are in the closet
Re: My cat moved her kittens
I think that's normal, but I am not an expert. When Isis had her kittens, she had them under my bathroom sink and then moved them under the bed a few days later. Maybe your cat thinks the closet is safer.
Re: My cat moved her kittens
She probably moved them to the closet due to a safer area, more quiet, and more private. Please make sure the closet is safe, free from drafts and that there are no hidden dangers or obstacles that could be detrimental for the kittens or momma kitty.
How are they doing? All seem to be nursing sufficiently? Is momma kitty attending each one? Is she healthy and content?

Thanks for the replys. They all seem to be doing fine. Only 3 babies. Momma gets up to eat and go to the liter box shes never gone for more than 15-20 minutes. They have been eating about every 2/2.5 hrs.
Re: My cat moved her kittens
I just thought I would share something cute... after Isis had her kittens, my ex fiance's cat Ichabod would "babysit" whenever Isis was away from them. He would crawl under the bed and curl up with them until Isis returned.
Re: My cat moved her kittens
The mom will move her kittens if she feels crowded or threatened. I would suggest you not handle her kittens for awhile, and if she is in a safe place free of drafts like Traci says, then just leave the family be for awhile until they adjust to each other. Just keep them in the dark and warm, and check the bedding and change it carefully when it gets wet and soiled. Make sure mom's food bowl is close to where she is with her kittens and keep the litterbox in the same room, just not close to the food or water. Feed mom about 5-6 times a day small amounts, I feed nursing moms kitten chow as well as kitten glop- a homemade recipe for lactating females.
