I'll weigh in on this as well. Of course you should have your vet rule out any signs of disease first. I've been fostering kittens for awhile and what works best for the little ones is to have a *lot* of litter pans available. If you have a covered litter pan, you might try removing the cover. I've found that the little ones tend to prefer no cover. Also, I just buy those cheap plastic dishpans from the dollar store and keep them in each room. Just let her know where they are and I bet she'll be doing better before you know it. And remember that you should NOT be using a clumping litter with a kitten this small. Little kittens often make a mess in the litter and get litter stuck to their paws. If they eat this when they clean themselves, it could cause some serious tummy problems. You might try using Fresh Step non-clumping clay litter. It works well as long as you keep it changed often. Please be patient with your baby. She will be a lifetime friend if you will give her the love and attention she needs right now.
Also, it might be best to put your oriental rug away until she's a bit older if it's really that big of a problem.
Good luck,
Gina

Re: Really need some advice and quick...PLEASE!!!!!!
If she started pooping everywhere after you switched to a sented litter, I would go back to the old stuff, the sent might just be to hard on her little nose. I am not positive but I would think can food for a kitten would not be to good for her, maybe to rich, I would think she needs some kitten food. Just be patient and you will have a loyal freind for life. Good luck
OOps I just relized that this was a 2 page message, Anyway I think we've given her anough heat about the spanking, I would hate to tick her off and leave this site with all the great advice. I am new here and I am really sorry I was not on her earlier.

Hey, Tina, heh heh....I'm feeding FF to Cuddles (CRF), and we DO keep FF in our stash at the clinic for CRF cats, as well as anorexic patients. For what it's worth, while it is crappy food, it is poplular amoung renal patients, and as always, better to have them eating something, rather than nothing at all. (No, I don't prefer it at all, but Cuddles does, that's all that matters at this point)Tina B and crew wrote:Matter of fact Fancy Feast is really only good for coaxing an anorexic cat into eating, otherwise I'd never feed it to any of my cats or fosters.
Oh, and Tender Vittles is also good for some (emphasis on some) cats with IBD.
Heh, I just know you wanted to hear that

Good grief--I thought I posted a reply but I don't see it--sorry if it ends up showing up twice! Anyway, I think you said the kitten ran out of the laundry room and pooped right away on the floor one time, so that makes me wonder if she's frightened of the laundry or feels too insecure to "go" there. I've read that a good way to teach a cat NOT to do something is to make a loud scary noise whenever she/he does it, so is it possible your kitty was scared by a noise while using her box in the laundry room at some point? I decided against putting my kitty Neo's box in the laundry because the washing machine is loud on the spin cycle, and I didn't want him to end up having a scary experience while using the box.
Also, it sounds like your kitty is pooping quite often and it isn't very solid--that's how my Neo was when I got him and the vet gave me sticky yellow medicine that I had to force-feed him for two weeks, which was an ordeal, but it did work. He goes exactly twice a day now, which I suspect is pretty normal. Your little kitty may have a little stomach bug.
I empathize with you because my naughty Neo is peeing outside the box. Not as bad as number 2s, but still, I understand your stress. Good luck!
