need emergancy help, Lost cat
My cat was dropped of in the middle of nowhere, about 15 miles from home. He has be a house cat for the last 14 years, no claws, what I am wondering is there anyone that could give me advise on finding him if is still alive. Is it possible that he would start to head home, any idea if he would just stay put, would he stick close to the highway or wonder into the bush. He is a very scared cat when ever I would let him out the back yard, and would only wonder a little around the yard. I know this is a hard one to figure out, but I am just trying to get some idea where he may be or where to look. He has been gone for 5 days(Thursday night) and I have been looking since. I have two possible sitings but there are so many strays in this area it could of be just been one of the strays. Any help would be great

so sorry to hear about this.
the area he was left, is it a sububan area or mostly woods? asking around, leaving posters, putting out his favorite food, making noises he would respond to are all ideas that have helped others.
chances are, he will search out the closest source of food and/or water...perhaps a resaurant or hotel....homes are a definite possibility. leaving notices on community mailboxes or at entrances to subdivisions might also help to get the word out.
sorry to here it has now been 5 days, adding in some prayers onto your other post. as you can imagine, the longer he is out there the more susceptible he will be to injury.
please hang in there and stick with us.

Thank you Jason, he was left out in the country, the closest little town would be about two or three miles away.

Stang,
I'm sorry to hear about your cat. Here is a website to help you understand how to search for a lost cat — particularly an indoor-only lost cat:
http://catsinthebag.org
I recommend you read ALL the sections on Indoor-Only cats. This will help you determine the best techniques for finding your cat based on your own cats personality. Then, if you determine your cat falls into the very timid cat category, then read all the sections on Trapping.
Wishing you all the best,
Pauline

ever since we moved in together 4 years ago she brought her cat which he is a great cat, and the two have never got along. Every once in a while he was spraying, I asumed marking his territory. I was not happy about it, and didn't know what to do, but I guess she thought she did. She never really like him anyway.

There were a bunch of posts a while back by Maxwell Smarts about his lost cat. There were lots of good suggestions about how to locate the cat and lure him back home, and he eventually got his cat back.
Do a search for "Max" to find his posts, I'm sure you'll find something there that will help. (I don't have any advice about the girlfriend, though.)
In the meantime, good luck and we'll be thinking of you!

When we first move in together I was wrestling with her 6 yer old son and picked him up and fell on the ground like he had pinned me down. Durango come out of nowhere and attacked her son. It was like he was trying to defend me. It took over a year before she would have anything to do with him. It didn't take to long before Durango was cuddling up to her son though, but she never really forgave him. I can understand why she did not like him, just can't imagine way she would do what she did.
Anyway I just want to thank everyone for the help, I am going to try again tonight with some of the advise I have been getting from everyone.

I hope that you work this out with your girlfriend... I think feelings need to be resolved between the two of you. Did she show you "where" she put this cat, so that you have some understanding of the location???
We once got my neighbors cat back. I asked my neighbor who the cat was 'closest' to in the family. It was her daughter. So I had her spread out a few of her daughters unwashed clothing along the fence. He did come back... but I don't know if this could help with 15 miles away from home. When you do search, bring an article of clothing or a blanket that has a heavy smell of you and the house.
I really hope that you find him. Please keep us posted.

What a nasty woman to do that to a cat! If Durango knows the sound of your can opener make a recording of you opening a bunch of cans, then go to the area where he was dropped off really early in the a.m. and play the recording. I am hoping for a good outcome on this, for this declawed lost baby............
