Help me get some sleep!!!!

Post by vanoodle »

Hi there,

I'm new to the board and I need some advice.

I have 2 wonderful 4 month old brother/sister kittens who so far have had a happy, healthy upbringing. They're very affectionate and love my boyfriend and I very much (and trust me, the feeling is mutual). No problems with eating or littlebox use at all.

They are going through an extremely playful stage right now, so we don't let them in our room at night (we never have since we got them). But the past two nights, they have been meowing out side our door on and off ALL NIGHT!!!! If we let them in the room to continue playing, they jump at our feet and bite our toes. We've had them for almost three months and this the first time we had problems with night time meowing. They litterally stick their mouths throught bottom crack in the door an meow.

Any advice on how I can get them to stop?!?!?

I'm sure you know that cats are nocturnal by nature and while this fact and my cats don't bother me in the least because I'm an insomniac, the majority of the normal population has a problem with it.

Have a half hour or so playtime with them before you're ready for bed; try and tire them out while giving them quality time with you. Also, try feeding them later at night so their bellies are full enough for them to sleep it off. Maybe a few new activity toys in a room far away from your bedroom might help distract them while you are trying to sleep.

They are kittens and this is what kittens are famous for ... among other great things.

Good luck and good sleep!

You know, it's funny, but I just recently read a statistic about the sleeping problems of people with pets - and although I can't remember the exact percentage, it was WAY up there: People whose pets slept with them also claimed they never got enough sleep!

I can attest to that fact! I am among the MANY who don't get as much sleep as I should because of the crazy antics of my cats.

I think Cleo has given some good advice. Your kittens will "grow up" way too fast, so enjoy their playfulness. Most kitties outgrow as lot of it by age 1 or 2. (My "kittens" are over 2 and still act like clowns, but don't attack my feet anymore when I try to sleep.)

I predict you'll give in and let them sleep with you in time..... :D Who can resist a purring bundle of fur - when it's not stalking your toe and going for the kill just as you're drifting off to sleep!
