Traci - Doc has a cloudy eye

I just noticed it this morning, so it seems to be a sudden development. My first thought was a cataract but it seems awful sudden for that? He doesn't seem to be in pain, but I can't be sure. I'm going to call my vet and take him in but naturally I wanted some input.

It's a uniform cloudiness, not heavy but you can definitely see the difference between his right eye (the one affected) and his left.

I have an appointment at 9:30 tomorrow. They were fully booked today. I hope that waiting will be OK. I'm at work but Tim is home and keeping an eye on him.

Is he otherwise acting normal, eating etc? Not rubbing at the eye or discharge etc? Pupil dilated or not? Try to look closely and determine if it's cloudiness or actual discharge/thin film of mucous from infection. If it's cloudy, don't do anything until you've seen the vet, - if you think it might be a thin film of mucous, you can try flushing it by using a clean needle-less syringe with room-temp water, dropping a few drops in the corner of eye and letting run through, gently wiping outer lids dry.

If he doesn't seem painful, might be a good sign, but if painful it could be anything - like a lens scratch/infection/retinal damage. When was his last blood profile? Kidneys ok? Heart and BP ok?

His last check up was fine...all was well.

It doesn't appear to be swollen, bothersome, or have any discharge, just a uniform cloudiness. He's eating normally and acting normally.

Like this, but not quite as heavy. It doesn't appear to be a film of mucous at all. And both pupils appeared to be uniform in size.

Can you call the vet back and beg to be seen, maybe at the last appointment of the day? (vets are often staying late anyway) - the suddenness you want to address and rule out hypertension, retinal detachment etc - tell the vet you are concerned because only one eye is affected and because it occured suddenly. Not trying to alarm you, but anytime something like this occurs so rapidly, demands prompt care.

Problem is I'm at work without a car and have no way to leave to get home.

Maybe. He was out doing some errands. If you think it is that crucial I'll see what I can do. I took the earliest appointment tomorrow.

I DO think it's crucial, and you and I both know, better to play it safe. Eye problems should never go unchecked and the suddenness of it warrants it to be checked ASAP. Hopefully it is only a minor thing, but some eye problems worsen within hours to days and become irrepairable, so that's why I strongly advise begging to get in ASAP.
