Buddy going for surgery tomorrow

Please say a prayer for my little Buddy. He is going for surgery tomorrow to have an oral tumor removed....it has grown into his jaw bone My vet says that she doesn't think it is cancer, but that she had to prepare us for the posiblity that it might be. I will update tomorrow.

The vet decided to just do biopsy's once she had him under...that and removed a tooth that was giving him issues. She said the tumor had grown in the week since she last saw him and she didn't want to put Buddy through the arderous task of removing the tumor until she knows what we are dealing with. She did a bone biopsy as well...we should get the results in aprox 1 1/2 week. Buddy recovered well but is still having some bleeding from where she did the biopsy. Not much though and she said to expect it. He is on Metacam q 24h for 4 days. She also said that one of his liver values were elevated...she says she willl retest after we have developed a care plan. I will let you know when I hear anything.

That's a long time for biopsy results, should only be around 7 days max. Any chance she can call the lab and expedite the results?

Feed soft food until he's feeling better, keep a close eye on him, and know he's in our thoughts and prayers!

We just got the biopsy reports back. Buddy's tumor is squamous cell carcinoma. It is also in his jaw bone per the bone biopsy. She said the pathology report said it was well diferentiated...not sure what that means. Our next step is to see an oncologist in Calgary to discuss options. I want to be sure it has not metastized before putting Buddy through the invasive surgery that he will require to remove the tumor and part of his jaw. Buddy is such a gentle, loyal boy...he sure doesn't deserve what he is about to go through

I am so very sorry to hear this news, I was so hoping it wasn't serious.

I hope the oncologist can give you more answers/information, but I would do so as soon as possible, since early surgical removal may afford more time. Chemo therapy may also be an option but something you will want to discuss thoroughly with your onco.

Buddy is in my thoughts and prayers, and I'm hoping for great surgical results, please don't put this off talking to the onco, the sooner the better.
