He was in on Monday the 3rd....the fever was very slight then, and I had not noticed anything different in his appetite or behavior...I was surprised he had a fever, but glad they checked for one as routine!
But the lymph node had been there for a couple of weeks by then and was not going away...but not getting bigger at the time...so I wanted to get that checked...and the odor from his ear....which is gone...I have purposefully been sniffing his ears....
He has lost a bit of weight, but I have attributed that to old age...I do add water to his kibble because he seems to prefer it that way...so maybe, thinking about it now, the swelling was bothering him to eat,but he was okay if I added water...he sleeps alot, but then he always has been a lazy boy...no skin infections or hair loss...no vomiting or diarrhea...no breathing problems...
He is showing some stiffness in his hips/tail area...but when he was a kitten....when my son carried him home...it was because he saw someone throw him out of their house by his tail and he landed in a snowbank...my son grabbed him up and told them they were not nice people and brought him home...we took him to the vet then and he had some bruising and sprain at the time and we just figured that eventually over the years that would come back to bother him...but overall he has actually been very healthy over the years...
Yes..he is strictly indoors...and any new ones that come in are quarantined to the bathroom and eventually upstairs hall until given the all clear...
yes, he said he looked at it so I am assuming under the scope and did not see anything
I did not think about the needle hitting a vessel...but if that happened would the node not go down then?
I am just hoping that it was a weird thing to happen and it will just go away now...

Re: Gump
Gump is home....very purry and snuggly...he ate about half a can of food this morning and was in good spirits...
When he got home he drank quite a bit of water...then climbed into my lap for a while...

Re: Gump
So, you're saying the lymph node was enlarged BEFORE the first vet visit?
Again, I'm not sure about the blood, usually lymph node fluid is milky in color, but the presence of blood may or may not be significant - that the other lymph nodes are not enlarged could be a good sign, let's hope so!
Again, when are the lab results expected back?

Re: Gump
I am hoping to hear something more Monday or Tuesday....
Yes, the lymph node was swollen the first time I took him in...that is why I took him, the swollen node and the odor from his ear....and the first time they examined and found the slight fever and dental concerns...so that is when he first got the antibiotic shot for his mouth, ear and hopefully lymph node...the ear cleared up, I am assuming since no smell now and he is not bothered by it and the swab was clear...
So then I took him back for the dental and to aspirate the node that did not go down
It has gone down significantly today, and he is out there eating the dry kibble, with no water in it...so that is a much better sign too...before he would only eat after I added warm water to it...
and yes...no other nodes swollen is a good sign....so I am feeling a bit better about things today....now to ...wait..

Re: Gump
Hmm, the vet didn't have any comments on Gump's teeth after the dental? No pockets of infection or loose teeth or anything? Seems strange the node has been swollen for so long and is now reducing since the dental.

Re: Gump
he said that his teeth were all solid and no major dental...just some cleaning...no teeth had to be removed...
When you say "significantly", how much as the lymph node actually reduced? By half? By more? Did he ever flinch or seem painful when it was touched? (don't go and touch it, just want to know if it ever seemed painful to the touch to him)
Which side of the jaw is the swollen lymph node in relation to the ear you thought was infected?
I'm hoping that since it HAS reduced, and his attitude/eating has improved, perhaps it was some sort of infection and is finally clearing up. Praying that it is in the all-clear!!

Re: Gump
Do you have an update on Gump, and the lymph node aspirate results?
We're thinking of him and sending healing vibes!
