Gentle journey sweet Lilly :-(

Post by Tina B and crew »

The cancer was just too aggressive (mitotic index was 24). She couldn't close her mouth, her tongue was being pushed out of place, a tooth was pushed out, she stopped eating, lost 1/2 lb, and was in pain even with meds. She was fine last Saturday. She got a night of snuggles last night, said goodbye to my 3yr old granddaughter, went into the carrier without a struggle (something she never does) and took her final journey. She will be missed dearly but she suffers no more. :-(

Thanks Traci. It was a tough week for her family. She went from bring OK to this horrible state in less than a week. No time to really prepare. Bridget thought about waiting but decided not to let her decline to the point that she was so out of it. She said their was a great wright lifted when she let her go, as hard as it was. And my intuition kicked in because I texted her just after she left with a virtual hug. Something just told me it was time. Damn what an evil and insidious disease!!! Lilly's 4 legged brother is going to miss her too, as is her 4 legged adopted sister. :-(

It's rare for progression to be that quick. It could have been present some time ago and not realized until visual symptoms appeared. That said, oral squamous cell is among the worst.

Please pass on to Bridget that her extended family here send our thoughts and prayers, and that we understand exactly how hard this is on her. God, I was so hoping it could be managed for awhile. (((((((HUGS)))))))

Yea, no doubt it was there and just hidden, but once discovered it did progress quickly. Her vet said she had never seen a mitotic index that high. Poor Lilly. She was such a good girl for the final journey. I just hate this for her. I'm glad she enjoyed her last evening at home the best she could.

Bridget said thank you. Bless her heart, she's so exhausted. :(

I'm so sorry Tina. I just hate it when things like this happen!
