Your post is concerning....first, don't allow kitty outdoors, and don't allow him to drink from an outdoor pond, these are good sources for bacteria, which can cause a great amount of damage to a kitty's system.

Your vet may need to re-evaluate the amlodipine and possibly adjust the dose. You should also talk to him about ruling out primary heart problems, such as a possible cardiomyopathy (in particular, hypertrophic). If you haven't had a complete heart workup on your kitty, now is the time to do so, with a doppler blood pressure check, ECG, possibly ultrasound if the ECG shows anything significant. X-rays should also be considered to detect pleural effusion and the source if it is evident (fluid in the chest cavity)....x-rays can also help detect right or left-sided heart enlargement, other organ changes, etc.

If your vet isn't experienced in heart medicine for felines, please seek another opinion, preferrably a feline only vet or ask about being referred to a feline cardiologist. It may not be significant, but there just might be a hidden heart function problem going on undetected.

I'm so very sorry to hear about Muffin. I can't offer any words of wisdom as to his condition; I'd think his vet could give you some kind of prognosis, though.

I know how very hard this decision is to make... davet posted a wonderful piece a while back about "making the decision", and I think it may help you; it's partway down this page (I hope this link works!): http://www.cathelp-online.com/phpBB2/vi ... php?t=486&

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and Muffin. He knows that you love him.

Why is your kitty not at your VET'S???

Kidney failure CAN be treated, albeit limited, if you have not had him seen since 5 days ago, and your vet did absolutely nothing to sustain him, it's time you get him to the nearest ER vet clinic ASAP!

Your kitty undoubtedly needs IV fluid support, possibly even calcium or potassium supplementation, as evidenced by the weakened back legs, not to mention direct nutritional support, don't delay on this, your kitty needs ER treatment RIGHT NOW! Don't automatically assume the worst, we don't know what your vet told you, nor do we know how he treated or planned to treat your kitty, it doesn't sound like ANYTHING was done, this is unacceptable...please, get him to ER RIGHT NOW.

  :cry Our Darling Muffin passed away, on July 22 at 8.40am, he waited for us to get up, he miowed at me and Katie our daughter, and he took several sighs, and we were with him, we are absolutely heartbroken, we had a burial for him and he is buried where he always used to like to be under a big tree next to the fountain, its so peaceful, I love and miss him so much, my heart is broken. His mother Mitzi, is 18yrs old, and keeps looking everywhere for him, they have never been apart, we had a lovely card from the cattery this morning, and I just cried and cried, noone knows just how you can feel unless you are a true cat lover, I have never felt pain like this since I lost my daughter aged 24, 12 years ago, I am so grateful for this site, thankyou to Kate who replied to me, and Traci, please forgive me I am    ing now, thankyouxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I'm so very very sorry, my heart aches for you. Please know that Muffin knew you loved him very much and only wanted what was best for him. You shared 16 long and wonderful years together, treasure them in your heart.

Safe and gentle journey, sweet Muffin.....(((HUGS))) to Muffin's Mom

I am so very very sorry. When my Munchie boy died in April (under anaesthetic)- I thought that the world was going to end!

This poem helped me a little - I hope that it brings you comfort.

A POEM FOR THE GRIEVING...
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die...
-Anonymous

Thinking of you...
Shadow.
