Zoey

Post by Shannon's Mom »

Our precious Zoey left us Sunday night. She was holding her own against her cancer and had no symptoms it was progressing. The vet was very pleased with her. This was very unexpected at this point. Please pray for Zoey's safe passage to the bridge. I miss her so much. She was a special kitty. Her brother Pumpkin was lying by her side when we found her.

Oh Peg, I am so very sorry, my heart goes out to you, I was so hoping she would go into remission.

Was she being treated with chemo?

Please know you're not alone, you gave Zoey a wonderful life, a wonderful home, and she knew you were doing your ultimate best for her.

Safe and gentle journey, sweet precious little Zoey, we love you sweet little girl... (((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))

The vet felt she was in remission. Her tumor was not growing and she was holding her weight and had no other symptoms. She was not acting any differently than before she was diagnosed. I had neighbors come in to give her pills so she wouldn't miss them while I was in Virginia (just one day). That was 5pm and she was fine. We came home at 1am and she was gone with Pumpkin at her side. She was not on chemo. It was considered but she fought so hard against the pills she actually passed out. We decided to give her quality in place of quantity. My regret is that I was not home and she died alone and scared. She went to her safety place in the house to die. I failed to be there for her when she needed me most. Pumpkin is having a hard time with it. He keeps looking for her and waiting for her to play. We feel he laid beside her and was the doting big brother to the end.

Peg,
Do you know what happened? Not to turn this into false assumption, but were your neighbors careful with her?

God, I am so sorry, I know the pain so well.

Traci, My neighbors have had kitties who had serious diseases too and they are experienced in treating kitties. They helped me give sub-Q's to Shannon. I trust them completely. I watch their cat when they go away. Zoey took her pills in a treat so all they had to do was wrap the pill in the treat and give it to her and she ate them. They did not have to hold her to pill her. Zoey was very friendly and they said they petted her and she kissed them. She had some water, went to the litter and they went home. They were shocked when I told them Zoey had passed on. All I can think of is the tumor may have burst or she had a heart attack or stroke. I just pray it was quick and she didn't suffer. She went to her safety place so I know she was scared. That hurts me alot. I promised my niece I wouldn't let her suffer. I only had her a year and a half but the hurt is just as strong as if she were here 20 years. She was a keeper.

It doesn't sound like it had anything to do with the tumor. Lymphoma is often a progressive disease and you would have noticed that symptoms were getting worse or more frequent. Your vet said she seemed to be doing fairly well.

Unfortunately, only a necropsy could determine what happened. And I would understand you not wanting to opt for that.

I'm so sorry, I know Zoey was a vital part of your life, and you in hers. Even if you only had her for a year and a half, it was a lifetime for her, in that, she had all the love she needed and a mommy who cherished and adored her. (((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))

Thanks, Traci. Zoey was not exhibiting any of the symptoms I was told to look for. She was still jumping on the furniture and was playing with her brush on Friday as I brushed her. She never had the diarhea or vomiting that Noodles had and was coming out to sun herself and have treats and eat. I would never have left her if I had known this would happen. I will always wonder what happened to her and how awful her last moments must have been. I knew when she was diagnosed I would lose her but I never expected it to go this way. She is the only pet I didn't hold and see out of this life. I regret that so much. She died alone and afraid and that is unforgiveable. I will not replace her. Pumpkin will be my last pet. I worry to much about dying and leaving him to get another.

Zoey was not alone. She was home, with Pumpkin, her perfect adoring brother. And it may have been something that didn't allow her to suffer. Please don't think about horrible things, think about the happy times, the special times and the perfect bond you shared.

I'm so sorry Peg. That pain is all too familiar. You did all you could and you loved Zoey so don't be hard on yourself. Hang in there.
