Run free, my sweet Java baby...

Post by Marty »

With a heavy heart, I had to let Java cross the Bridge yesterday. I went out for half an hour and came back to find her bleeding from her nose and mouth and gagging. Rushed her to the Vet, and made this decision not to pursue it further. Her quality of life was really not very good, and at 16 yrs, it didn't seem fair to continue.

She is free from all the itchiness and can see to chase squirrels again. I have lost my protector, but the time we had together remains in my heart. Thank you Java...job well done...Winnie, Biscotti and Dad are by your side now.

Oh no, Marty, I am SO SO sorry, my heart just breaks for Java and you.

Safe and gentle journey, sweet Java....(((((((HUGS)))))))

(Marty, those symptoms sound like hemorrhaging, whether from organ failure or toxic substance, please check your home ASAP for any thing that might have been spilled, gotten into, as well as the yard if applicable.

Traci, there is nothing around that she could have gotten into, and she stopped going outside when she went blind. I was thinking maybe a ruptured nasal tumor...she did make odd little snorts once in a while which I attributed to allergies. I didn't know about hemorrhaging and organ failure...I was aware her kidneys were showing signs of weakening.

Whatever it was, I couldn't put her through any more...

I understand you didn't want to put her through anything. I just wanted to bring up the potential, since you have Buffy and you want to make absolutely certain nothing in the home could have gotten into to have caused a toxic hemmorhage, it's just a rule-out.

This is so heartbreaking, Marty, I know Java meant so very much to you. ****TEARS****

Well, I did look around just in case, but there is absolutely nothing around that could have caused a toxic hemorrhage. Cleaning supplies are kept in cupboards above the washer and dryer...plants are out of reach...trash can covered...no spills. I'm sure that is not what caused this.

Of course I want Buffy to be safe...it's her and me now. She knows what has transpired here, as she was sitting in the kitchen with Java when I walked in. When I finally got to clean up the blood, she peed on the floor...and she never does that! She's been getting special attention today, and a few extra cookies.
