I don't know Traci, taking photos of my own cats is not very lucrative

My vet has professional photography of mainly cats, hanging up in the lobby and a couple exam rooms. While I love the prints, I know I've taken pics equal to or even better in terms of creativity, sharpness, etc. It's not what's in a name either, I have never heard of the artist and I've lived here most of my life.

I suppose getting heavily involved/promoting yourself with local art shows, dealers, events, etc, one could get "in the door", if you really want to 'invest' in yourself.

Oh yea, the vet m daughter works for has "professional" prints hanging in the office, and they are no better than anything I have ever done. Marketing photography as art is tough though. I've sold prints here and there but mostly people don't want to pay the price for them. Unfortunately. I have made it into a juried show, and am going to try a few more this year. I was offered space for a showing at a gallery but couldn't do it at the time - which sucks. I could probably get back in there again, but having high quality prints done, matting and framing them is costly - even if you do it yourself. And if you don't sell you are out all that expense.

Yes, it's expensive - I dabbled in this with my paintings when younger, actually sold several, but the costs just weren't worth it to pursue (for me).

For prints, I love board mounting as opposed to frames! (by the time you factor in frames, mats, glass, the costs sometimes average the same)

I've been doing tissue prints that I adhere to canvas and they are awesome. My daughter made me one for Christmas and I love it. Certainly not as archival as museum mat, UV glass, and a museum frame but they make cool, and inexpensive artwork pieces.

A lot of the galleries require that they be framed or displayed in a certain way. When I sell prints I just matt them and put them in archival quality sleeves. Cuts the expense for me and makes a nicer presentation for the customer than just the print.

They had a visitor come to the door last night. An opossum was snooping around out there I guess hoping to find some snacks, which he did not. The cats were quite intrigued. Lucy wouldn't stop chattering and chirping at it.





I've just got to say this. I love this cat. He can be a turd. He can be annoying. He can terrorize the other two cats to the point that he gets put in time out, because squirting him sometimes just doesn't work. He's cost me an exorbitant amount of money and time and stress! But I just love him so much. There is a sense of gratitude in this cat - something I've seen in all the rescues I have had - that is extraordinary. It doesn't quite go up there with the sense of gratitude and love that I got from Willow (she will always, always stand out as uniquely adoring), but it is close. He follows me everywhere. When I get up in the morning he follows me out to the kitchen to feed the kitties. He sits patiently and waits for me to prepare their bowls, put Chunk and Lucy's down where they eat and then take his into the bedroom for him to eat. It is precious how he covers his food when he is done - to me it seems like a holdover from his scrounging days, although I know in reality this is a habit a number of cats have. He follows me to my office when I go to my computer and finds a spot to be near me. He follows me out of my office when I leave, into the bathroom, into the living room, into the kitchen, wherever I go he is almost always there. He looks up at me with adoring eyes - eyes that say "thank you for caring" he gives me, pressies - soft, light, gentle pressies. He snuggles on my lap on occasion - not too often but when he does it's a wonderful feeling. He could teach a lot of humans the meaning of gratitude. Yes, I love this cat.

Well naturally after I bragged about him he turned into a real butthead yesterday evening, annoying Lucy to no end. He sure doesn't seem grateful for Chunk and Lucy sometimes! Lucy gives him pressies every once and a while and totally INSISTS that he groom her head. She will sit there bump her head up under his chin until he begrudgingly does a tiny lick then looks at me like "is that enough?!" It is so funny! And he and Chunk do play chase, which sounds more like a herd of horses than two cats! Truth is that they really have calmed down quite a bit from a month or two ago even if they do have their moments.

Different personalities, Tina, remember, different personalities, you just can't change that! I feel very blessed, my cats are so polar-opposite each other, there is never ever a dull moment in my house!
