Doc was so cute. I just got up to go to the bathroom (that's where he is staying while he recoups) and he got up to greet me. While I was peeing he reached up like he wanted to jump into my lap. So when my business was done I sat down on the floor (after I washed my hands of course) and he cuddled on my lap. Bless his heart...he is making up for all the years of love he missed.

Yes, I do love furry bathroom visitors. Willow almost ALWAYS followed me to the bathroom and would give me pressies while I was on the toilet.
I've found Doc does best if I leave him alone for a couple of hours and then check in him and spend time with him. I think he likes the quiet and I imagine it's a nice chance from the hospital ICU. He's still doing fine, still showing interest in lap time, eating, drinking etc. I just took my mom out to the grocery store and when I got home I saw Lucy peeking under the bathroom door and what do you know, Doc was sitting at the door waiting for me. It is so nice to see these little episodes of normalcy creeping back into his life!!

The clinic can be quite stressful, and it is rarely ever quiet enough for patients to get enough sleep, not to mention all the vitals-taking, blood draws, temp-taking, fluids and med administrations. If you've ever been in the hospital, nurses are constantly bugging you, it's about the same with pet patients. I'm sure he is really appreciating the quiet at home!
He'll get most of his sleep at night, since it will be quiet and lights are off. I'm sure he probably had a really good night's sleep last night.
The fact he's waiting at the door for you is good news! We always want BAR! (bright, alert, responsive!)

I understand the crowded bathrooms. I don't think I've been alone in the bathroom since before I got my first sheltie, Leah (Summer 1974). All three are usually with me and Dylan will put his face up to the shower door to check on me when I'm in the shower. They seem to think the bathroom is a great place to receive scritches and petting - which of course they get, so I can't blame them - it is my fault after all.

I had a great sign from Doc tonight. Traci had suggested I see if he is interested in one of the feather wands so I did, and he was!! He didn't really chase it but he sure perked up, because wide eyed and was almost, not quite, but almost that old Doc that I remember well. He would slowing follow the wand, sniff at it, gently paw at it. He heard Chunk and Lucy on the other side of the door and wanted to check them out so he peeked under. Chunk hissed then ran away. Silly cat. Then I put a towel on my lap and he crawled up there and went to sleep, just as content looking as can be. I let him sleep there for a while but had to eventually put his e-collar on and get up. He is such a precious gift. <3

Precious indeed! I'm so happy to hear he played alittle - by using something on the floor, he doesn't have to run/jump/stretch etc and can still be comfy.
Keep the updates coming, it sounds like he's feeling better every day!

You know, I think he is getting bored and possibly a little depressed being confined. I shut Chunk and Lucy out of the bedroom and opened the bathroom door to see if he wanted to come out. Sure enough he was eager to explore! I didn't let him jump on anything, but gently put him up on the chest in front of the window so he could look outside. He perked up so much! I let him walk around and explore a bit. He had a good 30 minutes out of his confinement. He was more of his old self than I've seen since he got sick! It did my heart good!
