I'm afraid the news isn't good. A repeat MRI showed even more inflammation in the brain a week or so ago, but no mass to indicate a tumor. The vets thought the most likely diagnosis was autoimmine encephalitis. The phenobarb was contolling his seizures until about a week ago, so they took him back to the vet. They were told if they started him on treatment for autoimmune encephalitis, and it was actually something else, the treatment could kill him. They decided to go ahead with the treatment. Well, it didn't work and they said goodbye to him today. They are broken-hearted and so am I.

oh I am so sorry the treatment did not work...but they tried....safe travels sweet corgi....hoping that our Bubba will meet you there and you can run off lots of energy together as you wait for your humans

On a side note about hoe the brain works...my husband was having silent migraines again recently...affecting the right side of his body and left side of his face...we asked if that meant that the migraines were affecting BOTH sides of his body....nope....

the left side of the brain controls the left side of the face...the right side of the brain controls the right side of the face...it is not until the nerves get to the neck that they switch and from there down control the opposite sides of the body...I thought that interesting...

So I guess if the right side of Gus's brain was affected, it would control the right eye, ear and so forth, which would then lead him to follow that direction?...just a guess, but it sounds like a plausible answer...

Karen, please convey our thoughts and prayers to your coworker, how tragic.

It must have been awful making the decision to treat encephalitis not knowing anything beyond that, but I hope they can find some semblance of peace in knowing it sounds like if encephalitis or not, it may not have responded, or, the outcome may not have changed. Sometimes these things progress beyond our ability to control, it is so difficult and heartbreaking.

My thoughts and prayers are with little Gus and his family, my heart just breaks, it sounds like he and Sophie were just the sweetest... together again.... ((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))
