Meet Angus...our newest family member

Post by oconnorjoy »

Angus came to us on Wednesday evening from a local shelter. He came into the shelter 2 1/2 months ago from a breeder rescue. There were six of them. Angus was the last one left..and I understand why. He is absolutley terrified. In the time at the shelter he never bonded with the lady who runs it...she had to carry him in to meet us, and he promptly hid under the table. I don't know what happend to him, but he is definitely tramatized. He has such gentle eyes...and hasn't made a peep. He has picked a few hiding places. He has been eating and drinking as long as I put the food in with him. Today he is making a lot of progress...he's finally starting to causiouly walk around the house. He is fine with Pebbles, Buddy and Gazoo...but you should have seen his eyes the first time he saw Gazoo...I don't think he's ever seen a cat before!
He's been to the vet and gotten a clean bill of health. He is not neutered yet but the vet and I have decided to give him a bit of time to settle in before scheduling that.

He's gorgeous - appears to be a purebred sheltie. He looks a lot like my Dylan. Isuspect he was from a puppy farm or BYB who kept the dogs caged with little to no human contact. It's so important for puppies to bond with people from a very young age. If he is a Sheltie, hopefully, his natural instincts to be with people should kick in after he becomes accustomed to his new surroundings. This is a very intelligent breed and he just needs to learn to trust. Most Shelties are usually reserved around people they don't know, but warm up to them rather quickly. Be patient and show him as much love and attention as he'll let you.

Joy, he is a real cutie! Congratulations on your new family member!

I agree with Karen, with a bit of patience, a lot of love, and time to acclimate to his new family, he should come around, especially if he's relatively young.
