Okay before I begin I want to let you guys know that my cat is healthy, and I recently had him checked out. He has no health problems that should cause him to do this, but I've been having a problem with him recently.
Lately he's been jumping in the litter box, digging around and yowling. At first I DID think something was wrong with him health wise but apparently this isn't the issue. It's obviously some behavioural issue.
I don't know what he wants. Does he not like the litter suddenly? Does he not like sharing a box with the others? I Have no idea and I don't know how to get him to stop. He doesn't do it often, just like once or twice a day, but it's getting annoying.
I mean I don't know what to do. I can't really block off the litterboxes obviously, or get upset with him for being IN the litterbox.
Anyone have any ideas here to try?

Re: Behavioral litter box issue
What has your vet done to determine he isn't having a health issue? He could be straining from a urinary blockage or infection which could be very painful. He could also be constipated. Just a couple of suggestions. If these really are not the case, maybe you could move the box to a different area, try a different litter???
Could be he's just a talker. I had one cat that would go and then do a happy dance around the apartment for a spell. Quirky...they can be very quirky sometimes.
I would get a second opinion on the health issues if not much was done in diagnosing him. Urine sample,, x-rays????

Re: Behavioral litter box issue
Sonique, exactly when was "recently checked him" at the vet? Urinary tract infections can develop at any time, so as Debbie rightfully states, you need to get him seen ASAP - a urinalysis is a MUST to determine this!
Once you learn more from the vet, and if there is in fact no urinary tract infection, then we can try to help further with tips on how to handle the litterbox issue. You should know, this is not normal behavior that you're describing, so first and foremost is getting that urinalysis done, do not wait on this, get him seen TODAY.
