Re: Another stray showed up
Hooray for solid poop! HAHAHA. I've had those days...
Fair warning, I'm on hours 50-54 at work this week. As in, I'm AT work right now. So anything I post in the next few hours may be goofier than usual.

Re: Another stray showed up
Karen, I'm thinking it was the antibiotic since it started after that. It's not a concern right now because he had a second solid poop this morning! Woop! And no farting when I visited him either.
I thought I was going to have to put the collar back on him yesterday because he was licking his foot a lot but it looks much better today too. Those antibiotics are working. His nose looks like it is getting some fur on it and the patches on his back look better every day.
I do warn you though, he is a persistent hand bumper. If you don't pet him he lets you know you better!
BTW...if you will let me know what food you plan to feed I will start transitioning him over to that so he will be accustomed to it and doesn't have to go through another transition after that long trip.

I have Izzy on Iams. Whatever's in the orange bag... I'm EXHAUSTED and can't think straight at the moment. I think it's chicken. Sometimes I'll get a little bag or box of one of the seafood varieties since she likes those and sprinkle it in. There's no proper pet supply store conveniently located near me, so that's the best I can get from Wal-Mart or wherever.

Yep, Iams is in the orange bag. I will transition him to that. Also, if you let me know what kind of litter you use I'll switch him over to that so he will be accustomed to it as well. The easier we can make this transition the better...but honestly he seems very adaptable so I think it should be a pretty easy one!
Fur is really growing back into the thin spots really well. I think in a week or so the spot on his nose should be almost normal again and the spots on his back are getting there too. His fur is feeling softer and starting to look shinier too. Yay for Doc being handsome!

Karen, OTC preps are generally a no-no for pets, especially cats (and especially unless under a vet's strict supervision). Usually, we rule out dietary changes, worms, etc.
Tina, was kitty dewormed?
My guess is the new food, if he's eating more than he used to before you found him, this can certainly cause gas and distended abdomen, due to larger amounts eaten, or faster eating, or, slower transit time in the intestine. Still, if he hasn't be dewormed, it would be a good idea to do so.

As for litter, I grab whichever clumping litter is on sale. Izzy doesn't care one way or another about litter. My parents have been getting the big buckets of TidyCats from CostCo.

Traci, no he wasn't dewormed (I don't think...will have to go back and look at his record from the clinic because I don't remember if I checked dewormer or not). I wouldn't give OTC meds so no need to worry about that.
But his stool is completely back to normal as is his belly. It was loose for one day and he was gassy but that was it. I'm pretty sure I can attribute it to the antibiotic. He's been on the same food for almost 2 weeks now. I will slowly transition him to the Iams. Will probably have him back to the vet before I travel with him and check on that parasite issue. The only think I know he has had is an application of Revolution.

Re: Another stray showed up
Revolution only treats roundworms and hookworms (and is a preventative for heatworm), but does not treat tapeworms. For tapeworms, ask your vet for a Droncit tablet (based on kitty's weight), or, Panacur.

How's my boy? Have you told him yet how much I love him already and how many cuddles he's in for?

Yes slvr...I tell him about his new home every day and how he is going to be loved and get lots of head scratches! And we often talk about Izzy often and how he has to behave toward Izzy and not be a butthead.
He is so sweet...just so very sweet. I haven't had an opportunity to do any non-phone camera photos...for one, he won't stay still long enough. He's always begging to be petted or fed.
