Re: Cat liver issues
Clavamox is an option, but please ask your vet for his opinion, he may or may not suggest antibiotics at all, but it's worth asking about.

Re: Cat liver issues
Do you mean a urine cystocentesis? If so, it doesn't require an ultrasound, it is a quick insertion with a needle into the bladder, urine drawn into the syringe, and the urine is then tested. It only requires certain gentle restraint of the cat, no anesthetic needed. A cystocentesis offers the best way to obtain an uncontaminated and fresh urine sample. (newly voided urine is almost always fine for testing but it can be contaminated via passage through the urinary tract, so if a test determines an infection from that, sometimes a cystocentesis gives the vet a better confirmation on the urine).

Re: Cat liver issues
the sample came back with only traces of bacteria
I am not sure what to do now
He is doing fine, just not gaining weight like I had hoped.
Hes still got that boney feel
In january he did not have that.
he is eating well, good bowels
the dr here in mexico wants to put him on urinary food only no antibiotics..he said he found some wbc also in the bladder sample he tested.
thanks

Re: Cat liver issues
Christy, you need to be taking to your vet about the medication (preferrably the NYC vet) - he may suggest a break from the ursodial, but I can't speak for him. Don't try to calculate doses on your own, you need your vet's input on that.
What is he eating now? Just how much weight has he lost? If a significant amount in the last few months, you also need to address that seriously with the vet.
If he's allowed outdoors, rule out worms, like tapeworm or roundworm - a fecal sample could determine that.

Re: Cat liver issues
Hi Tracy
Yes I asked him, he said the ursodial is a once a day but to do what i have to until i get more.
He hasnt lost any weight just has not gained.
My vet in nyc said to keep him on the liver/ibd diet for now and since per this test there was no bacteria , there is no need for antibiotics.
I am still searching for a pharmacy to break up the mgs in capsule for me of the ursodial and a friend sent a package down last week from usa to see if i would recieve it. If so , she will mail down meds.
but so far, no package.
thanks again
