update: the stray kitty next door is now an indoor kitty

Post by Susan and the girls »

No, sillies, before you go assuming, I didn't bring her in. :P The neighbor who was feeding her (when she wasn't eating SweetPea's food!) took her in to be a housecat!

"Chimnea" - named so because she slept in the neighbor's chimnea :D , was a very small kitty - and if you remember my talking about her earlier, she was the "visiting" kitty I'd spotted when I spent so many restless nights here at the new house (before we moved in) painting til the wee hours of the morning. I'd see her peeking through the un-curtained windows, and she'd let me get near her but just out of petting reach.

The neighbors told me they were feeding her because she was pregnant! I couldn't believe it. She looked to be about 6 months old!!!

Well, she had her babies under their house, and they were concerned because she was so young. When they didn't see any signs that she was feeding them, they went under the house to get the babies. I think there were three or four - can't remember exactly. Anyway, they all eventually died.

The neighbors took her to the vet (along with the kittens when they rescued them), and when the attempts to save the babies died (Chimnea wasn't producing milk because she was so young), they spayed her and brought her inside for good. I was very glad to hear that!

Tonight, I heard a "fuss" out back and looked out just in time to see SweetPea chasing one of the other strays up a tree. (You go girl!) I was concerned that she'd be frightened by the strays that live around here (which are actually being fed by the same neighbors who took in Chimnea), but obviously she's holding her own!

I just thought I'd give one of my "brief" updates.....

I am so glad they took her in. It's always nice to hear about one more abandoned or ferral kitty getting a nice home. I feel bad about the babies though. I wonder what happened? This kitty is going to feel so good having a warm bed and food again. Thanks for sharing this. :-)
