I was visiting my mother and there was a large orange and white cat in her backyard. She told me that he had been visiting her yard for a few months. She assumed that he had a home and that he was an inside/outside cat. During my visit he cried at the back patio door and tried to get in the house .
I took the train home, and I took advantage of the free wifi on the train. I was able to find a kijiji listing for a lost 14 year old orange and white cat. He had been missing since January 1st. There was no picture included in the posting.
I contacted the people who had lost the cat. They went over to my mother's house this morning - and it was their cat. As soon as he heard his name his tail went straight up and he went right to them.
I've been smiling all day. What a happy ending.

Good News Story
Re: Good News Story
Wonderful!!! I'm so glad the kitty's family found him. I had a similar incident a few years ago a few days afer New Years. A co-worker approached me when I was at work and showed me a picture of a dog she had found. Since I have shelties, she asked if I thought the dog was a sheltie. It did look like a sheltie and I told her I'd go on-line and try to see if I could find a listing for a lost sheltie . I found a listing in her zip code for a missing sheltie named Cody on FidoFinder that was several weeks old. I gave her the information and she called home to see if the dog answered to "Cody". It did, so I sent a message to the people who had placed the lost dog notice. They came to get him that evening and told my co-worker that the listing on FidoFinder was actually old and he had been found shortly after that notice was placed, but he had gotten spooked by the fireworks on New Year's Eve and had disappeared again. Both the husband and wife thought the other had taken down the notice on FidoFinder. It was a good thing neither one of them did, but it surprised me that they hadn't tried to place a new one after he went missing the second time. I hope they've made it harder for him to get away after going thru all that.

Oh my, Anna, you and mom were certainly in the right place at the right time, what a happy happy reunion!! Bless you for being there and going out of your way to help kitty and his owner!! I'll bet kitty was missing his owner all that time!
I just had a similar experience last month - a grey tabby boy was using our little kitty house, very friendly, came right up to me and stayed around the house for about a week or so. I tried to get some really good looks at him because I remembered an ad posted with a photo of a lost cat somewhere, and sure enough, I was able to find the owner (I save all the lost and found ads and photos in a log) - what a very happy reunion that was. Kitty had been lost for over a month, and was several miles away from his home. We figured he got into the owner's neighbor's truck and somehow ended up several miles away to where I live. Naturally, he should find my kitty haven, LOL.
Good work to you too, Karen. And unfortunately, people never update their ads, nor place new ones should the pet go missing again. Another sore spot with me is that some people don't even place ads at all!!

Re: Good News Story
If one of mine went missing, I place a flyer with pictures and contact info in every mailbox in my subdivision and all the ones nearby. To heck with the cost. On top of that, I'd place an ad in the classified section of the newpaper and put up a notice on every on-line site I could find. Angel went wandering several times (she was quite an escape artist, which is probably how she ended up in rescue to start with). The first time, she was found by a motel owner about a mile from us who called us using the phone number on her tag. The second time, a neighbor of mine who also has shelties brought her home. Someone had seen her and thought she was one of my neighbor's dogs, but the neighbor figured out where she belonged. The last time, my daughter was watching the dogs for us while we went to one of my class reunions, and my DD simply got in her car and went looking for her. Fortunately, she found her.
All of mine have tags with our contact info and they are also all microchipped - just a reminder for everyone out there - pets do get lost and you need to do everything you can to make sure they can get home. Tags with contact info and microchips are a MUST!!!
I can't imagine anyone not moving Heaven and Earth to find a lost pet!!!
