Re: Goodbye, Sweet Nikki...
I know how you all feel. I just don't have the heart to dig out the decorations. Nikki was always so interested in our little tree. We had given up on our big tree years ago when we lost our Leo and Frosty kitties. In the picture above, Nikki had just knocked the tree over. I always laughed at that picture. Now I laugh and cry.
Christmas has become so far removed from its original reason (the birth of Jesus and enjoying the warmth of friends and family) that it doesn't mean much. It might as well be, "Happy Commercialism". Sorry to sound so negative...
I hope you find comfort in your furbabies who are still here. I know I am from mine. Take care, everyone.

My kitties Shadow and Tank enable me to enjoy my existence and brighten my world. And may my angels, Nikki, Sparky, Buster, Frosty, Snowball, Leo, Foghorn, and Humane Society kitties be playing in the sunshine at the Rainbow Bridge.

You're not being negative, Sue, (and even if you were, you're entitled to be), I feel the same way about the commercialism. Now add that to suffering the commercialism in nearly every holiday, year after year after year....
I'm thinking of your sweet Nikki and all of our angel babies...((((((HUGS)))))

It ought to be a law that absolutely no Christmas decorations or merchandise can be displayed or sold until after Thanksgiving (except in the little craft shops that specialize in Christmas items all year long and "Christmas in July" festivities at craft fairs). I can live with those - but Christmas trees on display at WalMart and all the other stores before Halloween has got to go!!.

Karen, I totally agree. Earlier I went out of state to help my Dad when he had colon cancer surgery. (He is doing fine and the cancer had not spread.) A friend came to see me while I was there and we went shopping. It was September 7th, (2 days after Labor Day) and a department store had the Christmas trees out!
Unbelievable! I saw an interview with a man on CNN, and he said, "What's next? Christmas stuff out for the 4th of July?". He could be right...

Sue...I am so sorry. I could barely get through reading your post without losing it myself. I wish I had seen this sooner, but i've been horribly busy with school and community activities. Lately I've been feeling just a bit sad myself, missing my Willow. I won't say I know how you feel, but I can relate to your feelings about bringing Tank in etc. After I lost Willow I felt guilty for bringing Chunk into our home, because he kind of tormented Willow and her last year of life was fraught with having to deal with him instead of just loving her people. She wasn't sick that I know of but just suddenly left me in the middle of the night. I'm heartbroken to hear about Nikki....just heartbroken. She's so beautiful...I can see her and my Willow frolicking without anyone bothering them.
I packed away stockings after my kitties left, so I wouldn't have to find them when I unpack Christmas stuff....damn...I'm crying now...
