Just an update a few days in. Things are going well, the cats have completely adjusted and my mom seems to be enjoying their company. She is typically not an animal person, but as long as they don't get in her face or on the table or counters she tends to like them. I left them here with her yesterday for several hours and she said they did fine - Lucy even came to her and let her pet her a few times. Still slightly concerned about the door issue, but at least for now the cats are running when my mom goes near the door. Sometimes I guess it is a good thing that my mom is kind of loud
If I go out for any extended period of time I'll probably confine them, just for my own peace of mind.

Tina, have you ever used the squirt bottle to keep the kiddens away from the door (prior to you moving)? If so, maybe start doing that again with the squirt bottle, and have mom do the same, but you want mom to do this as a slow process because the cats aren't used to "reprimand" from grandma and you DO want them feeling comfortable around her. Just teach mom how you use the squirt bottle on a limited basis, with a vocal "NO", and never to squirt them in the face, etc. Observe the cats when you're teaching mom, make sure they aren't stressed by another "parent" figure using the squirt bottle.
Just an idea.
