OMG...my son's dog is at the Vet...possible rattlesnake bite

Well, I just talked to son, and now they think he may only have had an encounter with it, and was shaken up, rather than bitten. It was on their back patio, and son killed the snake with a concrete block. Louie will be spending the night at the Vet's under observation. No anti venom (@ $600) for now. There was another dog there also, who had obviously been bitten.

Uggh...makes me want to go around sealing up everything tight, tight, tight...

Louie was actually my rescue, but didn't do well around Winnie when she got sick, so he has lived with my son and family for the last 6 years or so.

Snake bites are so nasty, I hope the other dog will be ok too.

Got a question though...someone said rattlers don't always inject venom...they do it to get food, and they know they can't get it from dogs.

Not sure that makes a lot of sense to me, and I surely wouldn't want to take a chance!!!

Oh yeah...son's wife said the first thing Louie did when he got home and they let him outside....was pee on the concrete block used to smoosh said snake!!!

While not all snakes inject venom while striking/biting, don't EVER assume they won't, EVER. Whenever pet owners see a snake around, or know for certain their dog (or cat or any pet) has tangled with them, ALWAYS get the pet to a vet immediately, better to play it safe than be sorry.

Rattlesnakes are so very deadly, one bite can kill a human, and if agitated enough (or for whatever reason), a snake can and will bite whatever is in it's path.
