No, we did not have surgery afterall as the vet with who I settled with did not think it was necessary.
This experience was fairly easy with Oz. He's just that kind of cat, who just 'goes with the flow'. He's relaxed and laid back, and that has made my decision process fairly easy in terms of deciding on his treatment. I knew he was up for the challenge.
I really think we caught this early. All his blood work has been good too throughout the many months, and yes, we will continue with checkups on an ongoing basis. We have already discussed this with our vet.
I'm so happy with this wonderful news. Oz sounds like such a trooper, what a special little boy!
I know this has been incredibly trying for you, and expensive as well - I know you know it was worth it - thanks for going the extra mile for your little guy!
Sadly, surrounded by Oz's family, we had to put him down last Thursday.
It is a very difficult time for us all. We miss him terribly.
Oz's health started to decline mid November, and we took him in for several checkups. By Christmas, it was clear we were on borrowed time. We spent most of January, syringe feeding him, and keeping him comfortable. He was still very much mobile and alert. At the end of January, he kept mostly to the livingroom, and barely moved unless he was re-adjusting himself to the other side of the sofa. It was clear, we had done all that we could do. The cancer had gone into his bone marrow and in his last day he was very weak. I unfortunately was away for a few days prior to his passing, but was given daily reports on his status. My spouse spent every hour last weekend by his side. Although I told him to do what was necessary, if he had to make that dreaded decision, he kept Ozzie alive til I returned last Wednesday. He took him to the vets to get him some hydration and that seemed to perk him up a bit. When I came home, I spent the night by his side. On Thursday, again, we spent the morning together. Thursday afternoon, the vet came by the house. His passing was peaceful, surround by his friends Oscar and Licorice, and my spouse, and myself. We placed him in a box with some pictures of all of us. We are having his remains cremated, and getting a paw print of him.
He was a brave little soldier. I am glad we got another year to spend time with him. I do not regret the chemo, as I know it was the right thing to do. Up until November, he had a wonderful quality of life and he dealt with the daily meds, the trips to the vets, and the countless syringe feedings like a trooper. I have never seen such patience with a cat.
He will be deeply missed.

DJC, I am so saddened by this news, I know it has been a long and tough road for all of you. My heart just breaks for you.
Thank you for giving Oz such a wonderful life, for loving him so much and going above and beyond for him, he was so fortunate to have you as his mom. I know you did everything you could possibly have done, and then some. Oz knew that and knew how very much you loved him.
Please know you're not alone, our thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time. I feel fortunate you have shared so much of Oz with us, he was such a special little trooper and I know he was so much a part of your heart and your life.
