Suggestions for trimming a kittens nails?

A kittens nails who absolutely refuses to let you do it?! She goes NUTS when I try to do it and the last thing I want to happen is to clip a little bit too far!

She shows absolutely no interest in scratching anything so those little suckers turn into little daggers fast!

Any tips or ideas?!

Gently sneak up on her when she's super sleepy, like after a long day of play. And then do just one or two at a time. Eventually she'll learn you're not trying to chop her toes off. Hopefully.

Yea, what slvr said. Get em while they are in a lazy mood to begin with. I'm fortunate I've had cats that learned early on to have their nails clipped and tolerate it with relative grace. My Willow was the best. She'd sit on my lap and let me clip every single one without so much as a flinch. She was one special cat. But teach her now and she will learn to tolerate it hopefully. Barring that, you can always have the vet's office do it. Mine usually do a courtesy trim any time I take the cats in for anything.

There is 1 problem with that. She does not know how to be lazy! Craaaaazy kitten! I am going to have the vet do it this time around, but those suckers went from dull to daggers in like 2 weeks because she just has no interest in scratching stuff. I guess that is a good thing though!

I think alot of it may be from us having to hold her to give meds and eye ointment though. Hopefully after she is done with them she will forget soon and I will be able to handle her again!

You could always ply her with tuna. I've never seen that not work for at least a minute or two.

I have a pair of toenail clippers at the shelf at my desk. I use them because they are easier for me to hold to clip with....

We do "Clippy claws" I start them young...set them on my lap. their back against my chest, and hold a paw to gently squeeze the claws out...I do not clip to begin with, just touch them with the clippers to get them used to the feel....

After a few times of this, I may do just ONE foot of claws...clipping just the tip of their claw to begin with...if they take that okay, I do the other front paw...if not, I remember which one I did and do the other the next night

I clip sideways on the claw, in other words holding the clippers to right and left rather than top and bottom of claw. It does a good clean snip very quickly and without alot of noise or pressure from big bulky nail trimmers.
