I get that Traci, and what was my first suggestion? At least tophyb didn't pull the "but I can't afford it...blah blah blah" excuse which told me there was a willingness to do so, but possible inexperience in how to handle this. Not all of us are experienced cat handlers. Even I have had difficulty kenneling mine from time to time, especially The Queen Frodo. She would make every attempt to become a first class shredder sometimes! :D

I speak to what is written as well, but I always try to remember that not everyone thinks or responds the same as I would with my animals and not make assumptions about their competency as a pet "owner" based on one single post on an internet form.

tophyb...I am very glad you were able to get your kitty to the vet. Like Traci said she will trust you again, just be gentle and softspoken with her when she comes home.

I hope you're not implying that I inferred assumptions about competency.

You're right, not everyone thinks the same. Just my opinion and what I've advised many pet owners, it is better to do whatever (safely) necessary to get the cat into the carrier and quickly to the vet, than to wait until the damage is worse.

But, I get it.

Nope...not at all! Just speaking to my process is all.

So here's the update. I picked her up today and her mood hasn't changed. I guess I'll just have to wait and see how it goes. I really hope she gets better soon because it would break my heart if she doesn't. I've had her for 8 years since she was a kitten but I can't keep a cat that screams and hisses at when I get within 10 feet of her. Thanks again for all the responses.

tohpyb...give her time. Speak softly and gently to her. If she gets into bed at night gently reach over and see if she will let you pet her. You will gain her trust again. Don't force her, let her approach you. Glad she is home and good luck with her. Let us know how things go.

What exactly did the vet do to "diagnose" the pain, and beyond the pain meds, were xrays taken? Depending on where she was stepped on, may indicate the need for xrays. If you think she's still in pain, then the vet should look further - especially if he only gave her a cursory exam.

X-rays of her whole body were taken. No major injuries. I think they just assume that she was in pain or sore because they couldn't find anything wrong. The vet did call me this morning and tell me to try "Feliway". It's like a glade plugin with cat pheromones in it that are supposed to help cats feel at ease. Here's the site if you've never heard of it. http://www.petcomfortzone.com/

Kitty is now off the pain meds, right?

You could try the feliway, but it won't work on every cat. Your best bet is just be patient, work with her slowly, patiently, forgivingly, and don't overdo it but be consistent with loving and bonding, just as you were before.

Re: feliway - make sure that if you use the plugins, that they are not behind large pieces of furniture or blocked by furniture, and make sure you inspect your electrical outlets every week or so - sometimes the plugins get oily on the outside of the plastic, and traces of oil may seep onto the wall - inspect regularly and if you see any leaking or emitting oil on the wall or outlet, unplug immediately and call the company and demand an explanation and refund.

Sorry I haven't responded in a while. She has been fine for the last few weeks. Then out of nowhere I came home tonight and she's hissing at me again. Don't know where it came from this time. I guess I'll just have to do some more waiting.
