Layla is fitting into our home very well! *UPDATE*
Layla is fitting into our home very well! *UPDATE*
Our little Layla has been with us in her new home for the past few weeks and thankfully she is starting to fall into the swing of things! She has really started to grow on our Sheltie "Cali" and they have started to play the Mother/Daughter role. The two of them have started playing together on the regular and I have even caught both of them sleeping on each other a few times. Once Layla gets all that crazy kitten energy out of her, she loves to be a little snuggle bug and loves to sleep on peoples neck behind their heads while sitting on the couch. I really have to start looking into some type of cat tree for her to get up on because she is quite the climber! I have a baby gate up in "her" room to keep the dog from getting into the kitty crunchies when we are at work and she has figured out that if she climbs up it she can jump onto the shelves and stuff in the hallway! All and all it is definitely a new learning curve with a kitten so young but so far so good!

Re: the cat tree.
Please shop around, visually inspect it, make sure the base is wide and sturdy. The taller the tree, the less sturdy it may be.
I personally prefer Whisker City cat trees, with at least two posts on opposite or diagonal sides on the base, three or four is even better to ensure stability and safety. I also like them because depending on the type and size, I like the cubbys (round) and the perches that have a lip edge to them. Most Whisker City cat trees come with a dangly toy attached to the underside of the perch shelves, so monitor them frequently, or since Layla is a chewer, I'd just cut them off so she doesn't get too rambunctious and chew it off or ingest it. They usually hang by a silver beaded key chain thingy or elastic string, don't like that at all.
Do a search online to compare prices etc, there are hundreds of stores that sell cat trees online, but be careful if you go this route, it they are not sturdy enough, you may have a hard time shipping it back (costs, etc). If you have a pet store near you, it would be better if you could visually inspect it before purchasing. I get mine at petsmart, they usually have more different types than what they show on their online store.
I'm so happy Layla is settling in, and bonding with Cali! Thank you so much for taking her into your heart and home!

I have two cat trees. I got both from eBay .. I have to search for the name of the second one but here's the info on one that gets used often.
Armarkat
main website:

eBay listings link:

My opinion on the Armarkat .. the price was good with the free shipping, easy enough to put together, after 5 years the sisal started coming off and one of the perches broke (the one on the bottom right). Still usable and holds multi cats. I would purchase from them again if/when need be.

Here is another link I found in my bookmarks - I hope it is still extant. When I thought I was going to get to go home to my house in Lakeview, New Orleans, I was interested in the main section of this link: cat enclosures for outdoors... Alas, my kitties will remain apartment kids, so I too am checking out cat trees, wall shelves, etc.
