Mickey seems pretty much back to normal

Post by k9Karen »

He's still weak, but I think that has to do with aging, not whatever he had this week. I can tell just by the way he walks and looks at me, that he's feeling so much better. There's a bit of a spring in his step (well, the best a very arthritic, old guy can muster) this morning.

You know, I got to thinking. The vet gave me a sample of Rimadyl to try. Mickey seemed to be hurting so much, I gave him 1/2 a tablet on Saturday, and again on Sunday. It didn't seem to make any difference, so I didn't give him any more after that. I know Rimadyl can hit some dogs pretty hard, and fast. Anyone seen a reaction that quick with such a small dose? Just wondering if that could have anything to do with him getting sick on Wednesday night.

I still want to post some pictures of the birthday boy, even though his special day has come and gone. Seemesmile is still wacko this morning. I have to work today, so I guess I'll try again later this evening.

Again - I can't say enough to all of you who expressed your concerns and good wishes while Mickey was sick. 20/20 hindsight, I guess I overreacted a bit. It's just so hard when I know he's been on borrowed time for quite a while now, and I won't have him much longer. Makes me pretty sad, even when he's acting normal. It's pretty devastating to think "this is it". I'm very grateful all of you were there to help me through this.

Give all of your critters a hug from me. They deserve it for having such great people!

Oh Karen, I'm so glad! Hugs given to Mr. Blue...

...and I'm so pleased to hear there's that spring in Mickey's step again! One of the nicest things about this board (or more accurately, the people who use it) is that they're/we're here for whatever we can do when you need it. I hope Mickey's good days continue!

Karen - I know how you feel i think of that too..that time is flying to fast. So glad Mickey is better. I don't know about Rim. but aspirin will do that with Honey..she starts throwing up.

Fortunately she is doing well now on Gluc/Condr. - that goodness! I get the ppl one and split a pill - crush and mash it into her food. I bet you have already had Mickey on this, right? I seem to remember that. Can't wait to see pics. I had trouble also with SMS and Skeptic (I think) introduced me to Picture Trails..seems to be better right now. Will wait to see Mickey on his birthday!! :P

Really good news, Karen, what a relief....

RE the rimadyl: The reason I first started logging onto dog boards (the other olde timie one) was because Roxy was given two Rimadyl tabs one weekend and she had a terrible reaction. It was fast and dramatic. At least I think that's what it was as there was no other obvious reason for what happened that weekend. We stopped the med immediately and she returned to normal after a couple of days. I can never be sure if the rimadyl caused what happened but I thought we were going to loose her - I suspect she was especially sensitive to rimadyl and not one of the dogs who can tolerate it.
